You might want to read the whole thread before jumping in. He is the one who decided to resort to the "ruler of assholia" comment. I will state me opinion until the powers that be decide to ban me. If I can't have an opinion, then what's the point of being a member? What good is his "info" if it turns out to be false (which it likely is, or has been manipulated by the dealer, i.e. giving him less for his trade than it's really worth to meet his discount demand on the X5) since it will only make others here feel that they all should get this kind of discount and hesitate to purchase for a less generous discount, and unless you are in the same fantasyland he is in, you already know they are not going to discount a brand new 08 4.8 $5K (unless it's been underwater or through a hail storm!) :rolleyes:

If you want to see a board become irrelevant, let people come in and start making up crap and watch the value of the board go down the gutter. I am a member of dozens of boards and sponsor over 10, but there are a few that have seen thier hit count drop considerably when trolls were allowed to post away. What are the red flags for trolls?
Here are a few:
New member or low post count. We all start with low post counts, but like a student starting at a new school or a guy on a first date, the normal M.O is not to rock the boat when you are just getting familiar with the environment.

Makes either unbelievable claims or trashes the subject of the forum. Bergs has done the former, but I also see people come into a board, join up and from post #1 say thinly veiled or outright direct negative comments about the subject (here it would be to come in and say what a POS the X5 is, and then rave about the Cayenne or Q7, etc).

Gets very defensive when anyone questions them.

Does not contribute to the forums except to either further the thread they are trolling on or to also stir the pot on other threads.

In summary, I can be wrong about bergs, but my feelings are what they are, and I am happy to express my opinion, unsolicited or not. If you do not like it, you can just ignore me until someone decides to ban me. (That's another death knell for the forums, when they start banning people for not following blindly like lambs to the slaughter, instead of having a legitimate reason. I hope X5 world is above this petty tactic).

If it turns out Bergs posts or PM's the info to me, I will take the time to check it out, and if it's true, I will be on the board posting an apology ASAP. Still won't make me bite my tongue the next time I smell a rat though, it's just not my nature.:popcorn:

But when you start hinting that I'm a "12-year-old" and then sarcastically say that "you're the ruler of a small country and Elvis is waiting for you", your smug manner is more than unnecessary. I have no reason to make stuff up. Seriously, do you really believe that there are folks out there who are trolling BMW X5 message boards and making up the amount they spent on a 70K SUV? I surely don't.

The reason I'm a new poster, is because up until a few weeks ago, I wasn't on the market for an X5. But I'm having a baby in 3 weeks and we decided to get an SUV. I'd occasionally read the posts on here for info and that was about it. I wish I could have found more info about prices others paid - they seem to be few and far between. So when I bought my X5 a few weeks ago, I decided to share my experience and help out. So I posted. Does that make me a troll? Or does that simply make me a first time poster? Whatever it means, I got your accusatory, smart-assed attitude.

Do you really believe that posts like yours contribute anything to the site?

To be honest, I have no desire to PM you because I really don't feel like I have to validate my posting or what I paid for my X5. I had another member PM me this morning asking for my dealer info which I gladly passed along. He/she defended me a few posts above - I'm sure you're going to accuse them of being my Mom or my "d&d playing pimple-faced buddy". So have at it. But to be honest, the real reason that sites like this fail aren't because of people like me, they fail because of people like you who feel it necessary to share his opinion in the manner that you do.

It would be nice if those of you who got these great deals published the name of the dealer and salesman. There wouldn't be any question of credibility- and your salesman will thank you for referring so much business to him.

I'm in the process of buying loaded 4.8 now- when complete I will gladly post dealership, salesperson and amount discounted.

I haven't gotten offers anywhere near a $5K discount though. So if you did it would be nice to know where and whom I could contact.

Yes, there are trolls on this board. Others here have mentioned it (and if I am not mistaken proven it in at least one case when the "troll" bragged about the pot-stirring on another forum for MB or RR, etc. Do I believe you? Nope. Do I think someone who lies (regardless of age or preferred role playing game:nanana: ) hurts the credibility of the forum? Yep.
I think my post in this case contributed because either you are full of it, in which case the members here looking to buy can get back to the realization that $5K discounts on 08 4.8's just coming out are not going to happen or you will prove me wrong, and other members can use the proof to pressure their local dealers to give them a better deal. Either way, I see no downside for me. Being called an asshole, jerk , whatever is not a downside, since you do not know me, anymore than I know you. So far though I have seen no sign of the proof I asked for. You can avoid posting the info or PM'ing me, but that only further proves my suspicions that you either omitted some relevant facts to the "discount" or you are fabricating it completely. You say you feel you have no reason to validate it, so why did you bother making it up in the first place?
You think forums fail because people like me call them like I see them? (sometimes incorrectly I am sure). You obviously have not been on enough forums (not that the fact I have is anything to brag about), so when you learn a little more about some of the BS that happens on them maybe you can enlighten me.

You might want to check with your saleman and ask him if he wants you to do this. Different people get different deals, depending upon many factors. I got a Z4 in 2004 for $500 over invoice and when I took delivery offered to my saleman that I would send people his way. His response was that sure, he would be very appreciative if I sent people his way, but to please not tell them the deal I got, as his boss would be really unhappy with him if he did deals like that for everyone who walked through the door.
