Our new Garmin, which works well, kept showing that every destination was
an hour longer than we would expect...the sumbitch was set for CST and we
are in EST/EDT, :rofl: ...not very intuitive to change it, either.
But, even I could manage that...

My point was/is, that it would be "nice" if your X's dashboard clock changed
for you, but the manual adjustment takes all of 5 seconds.

Give me a few less gizmos, keep the price to something that doesn't cost
more than my first 2 houses combined, and keep the engineering cooking, imo.

my equally valid perspective is that it'd be a great feature and with due care from programmers, one that wouldn't impact on any part of the vehicle's reliability

I believe the idea here is that it only takes 5 seconds to complete the process. Which is less time than most people spend arguing about a feature they don't have.

The reasonable conclusion?? Just set the clock and move on. Arguing aint going to change a thing especially the time.

Regarding your MBZ, that just means that your car needs a software update so that it can handle the new DST dates. It should not still only be updating a few weeks later...

it's not a fact though quicksilver. suggesting that this kind of feature exist and discussing the pros and cons is perfectly reasonable. attempting to quash that and just telling people that the only reasonable course of action is to set the clock manually and move on isn't actually reasonable, or factual. it's just one possible course of action.

another is to discuss the idea and learn about it's possible impacts and benefits and passing on feedback to the manufacturer. I'm sure BMW generally want to continue adding nice features where possible (this certainly is) to their vehicles as opposed to telling them it's not a reasonable request and to just move on.

Come on folks, no need for flames... I was just pointing out 2 facts:

a) The clock does not change automatically with the DST
b) Other car manufacturers have already adjusted to the new DST rules.

That is all. It is totally irrelevant how long it takes to make the change manually. BTW, we do have power windows in our cars, while cranking down the windows manually takes 5 seconds, too :) And that, too, does not affect the driveability of the X :)

I'm not sure that your MB would not change when the DST switched over, does the car have COMAND/Nav?

On the MB, the auto DST function is tied to the Nav system through the GPS signals - and hence why it would also change the clock with the timezone if you were traversing from east to west or vice versa.

There is a slight annoyance issue with this system in that I cannot fine tune the clock - I'm ALWAYS late so I'd like to advance the clock in the car by a few minutes but it's not possible with this system, one can only set the time in 1/2 hour increments.
