I'm with Deutch100. If BMW doesn't pull their engineering and quality-control groups up to the level of the other European auto makers then, pride and performance be damned, my next SUV will *not* be a BMW.
It really is NOT OK for manufacturers to put out untested electronics, no matter what the cost or brand of the car. Glibbing that "it's just a BMW" might have worked in the 70's but most of us work far to hard at our jobs to toss good money after bad due to fix problems due to inherently defective design work and/or insufficient quality control. Bottom line: BMW should know better - and smart consumers should expect more. |

sorry to hear about your trouble. But like what i always say, DO NOT GET THE FIRST GEN, whether it is electronic gadgets or cars. MMy first gen PS3 broke down and bug filled, my first gen iphone, not so good, and its been proven in 1st gen cars as well. My first gen mitsubishi eclipse in 1994 (1995 model) i got check engine came on at the first 250 miles. This is a lesson in life i have learned and told myself that no reason for me to be the first to have it.

deutsch100 no offense intended but I'm curious, Knowing in advance that all the vehicles you have listed were as you say "surpassing BMW in quality and reliability"; Why did you buy the X. Why not purchase one of the others? In a sense you did the same thing you accused others of doing. Buying a vehicle you already knew had problems for some other reason. Quote:

Imagine how disappointed this guy is:
http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread.php?t=360778 He paid $70K and THIS happens. Welcome to the world of modern electronics. We all talked about this happening 20 years ago. Imagine the future when everthing on a car is computerized! No more carbs, pull levers to adjust the A/C, manual seats, crank windows...Now we have LED mood lighting, ventilated asses, servo motors adjusting climate 'zones' all on thier own, computers that accelerate or brake individual wheels based on sensors... If only 1% of the electronics don't like a voltage of 11.9 vs 12.5, uh oh. |

Consumers Reports: http://blogs.consumerreports.org/car...liability.html "For the first time in recent years, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class (V6 RWD) is no longer below average, although an all-new C-Class has been introduced for 2008. Despite this, Mercedes-Benz still hovers near the bottom in Consumer Reports' predicted reliability scores comparison." |
