The above thread mentions:: The BMW SIB is 61 02 07

Deutsch - you were the poster in this thread

I guess you're having a bad day?

Actually a pretty good day! It just amazes me that I've had people on this forum actually say that you don't buy a BMW expecting all the electronics to work, but you buy for the way a BMW handles. For the cost of most BMW models, I EXPECT not to have all these problems. This is my SECOND E70, and not much has been improved in the last year!

I'm with Deutch100. If BMW doesn't pull their engineering and quality-control groups up to the level of the other European auto makers then, pride and performance be damned, my next SUV will *not* be a BMW.

It really is NOT OK for manufacturers to put out untested electronics, no matter what the cost or brand of the car. Glibbing that "it's just a BMW" might have worked in the 70's but most of us work far to hard at our jobs to toss good money after bad due to fix problems due to inherently defective design work and/or insufficient quality control.

Bottom line: BMW should know better - and smart consumers should expect more.

What other European auto makers are you referring to--Volvo (Ford), Saab (GM) , MB, Porsche ? MB ML series is known as a quality nightmare and Porsches are not that technically advanced. For every 1 person on here that unfortunately has quality problems there are 99 that do not have any.

No, you dont have to lock your doors, thats just absurd. I never lock my doors at night and have never seen this message.

sorry to hear about your trouble. But like what i always say, DO NOT GET THE FIRST GEN, whether it is electronic gadgets or cars. MMy first gen PS3 broke down and bug filled, my first gen iphone, not so good, and its been proven in 1st gen cars as well. My first gen mitsubishi eclipse in 1994 (1995 model) i got check engine came on at the first 250 miles. This is a lesson in life i have learned and told myself that no reason for me to be the first to have it.

Last week: The AWD, DSC and Rear View camera all malfunctioned. Took it back to the shop for it's second visit and was told that it's the Steering Angle Sensor. Had to pick it up because I needed it this weekend and I have to take it back tomorrow to have the new sensor installed.

On top of that, there has been numerous occasions where it seems that the transmission doesn't shift when it's supposed to. They looked at this as well bit didn't find anything wrong with it.

Needless to say, I'm not very happy. A 70K truck should not be having this many issues so early. Am I the only one who is having problems?

Porsche is not technically advanced?? What planet are you on? Also only the first Generation MBZ ML was poor. Since 2006 the ML is rated very, very high. MBZ scores higher than BMW is almost every reliability rating, carried out by leading US companies. Mercedes, Audi and Porsche are fast surpassing (if not already surpassed) BMW in quality and reliability. I have not had a reliable BMW since my 2005 M3. I kept trying, trying to stay BMW loyal, but my 2006 330i, 2007 X5 3.0si and 2008 X5 4.8i...all very disappointing.

deutsch100 no offense intended but I'm curious,

Knowing in advance that all the vehicles you have listed were as you say "surpassing BMW in quality and reliability"; Why did you buy the X. Why not purchase one of the others?

In a sense you did the same thing you accused others of doing. Buying a vehicle you already knew had problems for some other reason.

Imagine how disappointed this guy is:
http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread.php?t=360778

He paid $70K and THIS happens.

Welcome to the world of modern electronics. We all talked about this happening 20 years ago. Imagine the future when everthing on a car is computerized! No more carbs, pull levers to adjust the A/C, manual seats, crank windows...Now we have LED mood lighting, ventilated asses, servo motors adjusting climate 'zones' all on thier own, computers that accelerate or brake individual wheels based on sensors...

If only 1% of the electronics don't like a voltage of 11.9 vs 12.5, uh oh.

Porsche doesn't have back cameras, does it ? Does the new ML have the cornering front headlights ? The e70 has more technology on it. I agree it should always work but when electronics go bad they cause more problems. Which surveys are you referring to that MB scores higher than BMW ? You can make the same argument that MB doesn't score as good on Consumer Reports as other brands. Surveys are just that--surveys. Sorry to hear about your BMW experience. I've had an e53 for 7 years now that I bought new and the only thing really wrong with it has been a rear window regulator.

Consumers Reports:

http://blogs.consumerreports.org/car...liability.html

"For the first time in recent years, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class (V6 RWD) is no longer below average, although an all-new C-Class has been introduced for 2008. Despite this, Mercedes-Benz still hovers near the bottom in Consumer Reports' predicted reliability scores comparison."
