My New X5 Is A Piece of Junk!

So...I've had my new X5 since mid November. Have only put 2800 miles on it. And I've had more than a few issues with it.

January: The communications system malfunctioned. Had to take it to the shop where it sat for almost a week because a new one had to be ordered.

Last week: The AWD, DSC and Rear View camera all malfunctioned. Took it back to the shop for it's second visit and was told that it's the Steering Angle Sensor. Had to pick it up because I needed it this weekend and I have to take it back tomorrow to have the new sensor installed.

On top of that, there has been numerous occasions where it seems that the transmission doesn't shift when it's supposed to. They looked at this as well bit didn't find anything wrong with it.

Needless to say, I'm not very happy. A 70K truck should not be having this many issues so early. Am I the only one who is having problems?

sorry to hear of your troubles! You should have the dealer keep it until it is right!
Most of us have experienced a few quibbles, but generally nothing huge. I've only had one issue with mine (the back up cam).
Best of luck!

Check out your state's lemon laws... You should be able to take it back if you are having so many problems, especially with a $70 truck. Good luck!

Man I would be demanding a new truck all together...it sounds like you're having a major electrical issue. NO new vehicle should need anything replaced that soon IMO.

Sorry for your troubles. I've had mine since March and put 4600 miles on and have not issues. Hope you get yours resolved.

There are A LOT of problems with the 2007 & 2008 X5. The transmission is a big problem, and BMW knows about it. They are "trying" to find a fix to the transmission problems, and are "hoping" for a Sept. 2008 software update. Our 750Li transmission is equally bad, and BMW has yet to create a successful software update in almost 2 years of ownership.

The new X5 is plagued with problems, and it's really a shame because the E70 is a beautiful machine, and rated very, very high for safety. The X5 is actually one of the safest vehicles on the road today!!

The E70 has WAY too many electronic components, and sadly BMW seems to just release them, without having them totally debugged. I know BMW wants to stay "cutting edge", but fixing bugs after the car is released, is not a smart way to keep customers happy & loyal. They should really learn from Mercedes' mistakes, as it has taken Mercedes 5+ years to return to their famous, reliable reputation.

JD Powers for 2008 rated BMW #21/32, and Mercedes is #4/32. Even Jaguar is way ahead of BMW. #21 is very, very sad, and I hope BMW doesn't just rest on it's laurels as being better than MBZ during their dark period. Mercedes is SO surpassing BMW in terms of reliability and pure customer satisfaction.

Sorry to hear, you too are having problems. This is my second E70, and I am NOT happy. What a waste of $70k. Live and learn, live and learn.

no major issues but I did see the service rep a couple times for very minor issues. I'm sorry to hear that you are having major complications. I think BMW makes good cars but not as reliable as Japanese makers. (still way reliable than a GM or FORD IMHO)

The JD Power (NOT POWERS) rating you mentioned (deutsch) was the Initial Quality Survey. Porsche, Infiniti and Lexus topped the list, and Audi rounded out the top 10. It doesn't matter as much as the Long-Term Quality Survey.

Anyway, I hope your issues are resolved. I agree that you should consider applying for a lemon law.

Mine was delivered in late November.

Other than two faulty EDC sensors (2nd 10 days ago) no real issues. Some minor, intermittent gliches from time to time, but nothing persistent or serious. Only real complaint is the backup camera which as others have noted is a piece of crap!

Mine has 11K miles.

These are very complex cars electronically so when things go bad they can be really bad & very difficult to diagnose. I suspect any of us planning to keep one post warranty will be well advised to purchase the extended warranty.

Hope your dealer can solve your problem. Best of luck!

Sorry X5audi, didn't mean to say Powers (but I guess that's important to you, to correct my English, and point out my typo!!)

Initial quality is very important. If the car is a piece of crap in the beginning, chances are it will not miraculously turn into a dream car later down the road. Yeah Porsche, Infiniti and Audi topped the list, but NOT BMW. Mercedes topped the list in the top 4, Audi was #10. I purposely focused on Mercedes, as Mercedes is BMW's direct and most important competitor. #4/32 for Mercedes is awesome, as it wasn't too long ago, that they were #32. If BMW isn't careful, #32 isn't that far from #21.
