Locked myself out today ... even with comfort access!

I had posted earlier how the car keeps beeping lock/unlock when washing at the car wash. A couple of people suggested leaving the key fobb inside the vehicle to avoid this, and I guess it makes sense.

Well today at the car wash it did the same thing. So I quickly opened the door, threw the key fobb on the driver's seat and shut the door as I was washing the car. As I did this, I heard a beep, and I thought oh crap! Sure enough all the doors had locked! :banghead:

Of course my cell phone was in the car too. Had to call my wife from a pay phone and wait for the second key fobb while others waited in line giving me dirty looks! Even my wife wondered over the phone how I locked myself out and thought it wasn't possible... well I guess it is! :(

Wouldn't it have been easier to call BMW Assist and have them send an unlock signal?

Could you explain what you mean by beeping lock/unlock? And I don't think it is possible to lock your key fob. I put my key fob in the car and tried locking it from the handle but had no luck. :dunno:

next time throw the key inside but take out the metal door key from the fob.

Access in a pinch.

Your keys may be locked in your vehicle, but you're not out of luck. With Door Unlock*, all it may take is a phone call to the BMW Assist Response Center at (888) 333-6118 to get you back behind the wheel. Once a response specialist has confirmed your name and password, a signal is sent to your vehicle to unlock it remotely. If any additional services are required, a response specialist will be happy to assist you.

*Available on BMW Assist-equipped and activated 2008 and later X3 and Z4 and all other 2007 and later models produced 9/06 and later.

My thought...why didn't you just grad the door handle. The key was right there on the seat....it should've unlocked??????........Phil

That is a security feature, the vehicle knows whether the keyfob is inside or outside the vehicle. Think of yourself waiting at a Red Light... someone walks up to open your door and toss you out?

Security feature? Ive tried to lock the door with the key in the seat....no joy! The lock pops right back up. So yes you are correct....the vehicle does know if the key is in or out. Now if the key is in the ignition your security theory sounds correct. Sounds like he may have a problem if his key was in the seat.......Phil
