No charge. Car is under warranty. Obviously this is a verifiable complaint.

I suffered with this problem for two years and 30k miles. Got the update today and for the first time I have a proper functioning vehicle. Thanks for the post.

The easiest way to tell is to start on a uphill (does not have to be steep) and see if it jerks through the gears or whether it changes smoothly. The difference is significant.

This weekend, I'm going to access Service Mode and see what changes have been made. I have pictures of what all the diagnosis screens looked like before.

Ha! My dealer actually gave an invoice where they charged me labor on this. I complained to the SA and he said "oh, that's a mistake" and produced a new invoice. It was a little suspicious.

And yes, as long as you describe the problem you're seeing, you should get the update. I think some (most?) dealerships won't do the SIB update if you just say that you'd like to have it...

I think somewhere in this thread someone mentioned this update only applies to car produced 10/08 and earlier? not sure when is your 09 is produced.

If youve got a 4.8 with the bad transmission, you will know about it .. and so will your passengers, cos they'll think you dont know how to drive your X ;) Sudden bursts of power, and sudden deceleration due to down shifting .. man .. it was a bad joke

Thanks for this post. Picked up my X5 from the service department at Perillo today. 2007 with 35,000 miles, have had the jerky acceleration since purchase. The service advisor didn't need much convincing to relent and agree to install the update. The truck was at the dealer a day longer because according to the SA the first installation attempt did not work. They also replaced a lower front sway bar. X5 now drives like it should!
