Wow! I haven't been on lately and just found this post. My 08 4.8i has had these problems since new. It is my wife's car, so I only notice it when I drive it on occassion. It iritates me whenever I drive her car, but I have just put up with it. The car is due for a one year oil change, so I found these at just the right time. Hopefully these SIB's will cure the problem.

Great Board!!

I had noticed that every so often, say 1 out of 15-20 times, I would notice some jerk motion in the take off. I also noted here that DS eliminates it, which it does, but that is not the point. I had my 4.8 e70 in yesterday and it DID have the updates already, but I bought it used, 1 year, and so they cleared the adaptation memory and I am starting fresh with the X5. I already notice a difference,. I doesnt jerk, and so far up teh hill outside my house it is not as lagging in shifting gears. I will post later for a follow up.

I don't know what else to do.. my car has all of the updates (according to my friendly BMW service manager) - but it absolutely has the lag / jerk. I can reproduce it, and have reproduced it for the technicians (even after the updates).
I've had 2 other X5's, a 2001 and a 2006 - neither drove anything close to this.
I can't stand this problem - it's embarrassing!!! Is there something else I can have the bimmer dealer do ?? I love the car.. but this is making me fall out of love.

try just slowly accelerating (I mean really ease on it). I know its really annoying but it the only way to get rid of the lag/jerk. :dunno:

Im going in tomorrow for the update, and hopefully everything works out.

^ bring it to another dealer and see what they have to say... don't mention what's already been tried. Just claim & show them the jolting.

^ well I was responding to foozed since he's tried everything. If YOU are going in for the first time and know you dont have that particular update, it would probably help to tell them the SIB so they can find it easier and not waste time.

haha sorry. Well Im still at the dealership (free wifi). They said they'll need the truck overnight for the transmission check, so i said f that. I'll have to do it another day when i have more time. :(

Just doing some brake fluid/oil stuff today

I would bring it into the dealer as FEW times as possible. Last 2 times I've been, they've messed up my car. Rallye dinged my front right rim after Hassel fuct up my front fender. I'm trying to hold my anger and disgust... bottom line... only go in if you have to, and gather a laundry list of problems rather than going in for each item.
