sliding / tilt sunroof - idrive error

After 18 days in the body shop I finally get the vehicle back (looking perfect on the repair, btw). As soon as I jump in there's an error icon on the dash.
I go to the service menu and this is what it says:

It will only pop up & down, but won't slide open at all. I've heard of people using the tool to open it but does that reset it somehow? I don't really need to open it as an emergency right now, I just want to get it back to working condition and/or reset this. I didn't mention it to the body shop guys because it was closing time and I didn't want to leave it there again.

Looks like all you need to do is the basic common reset. Try holding the button in the up/vent position... it should start moving after about 20 seconds and will go through the complete movement all the way through (as long as you don't let off) Once it has fully closed and stopped moving, it should be back to normal operation.

Thanks, looks like that did it. Appreciate you saving me a few hours taking it to the dealer for a 1 minute fix.

Hey RH71 was your ride at the dealer for the front bumper repair that the dealer caused?

SORRY TO JACK THIS THREAD BUT I WAS TOLD TO REPLACE OR REPAIR THE SUNROOF MECHANISM AND AFTER REPLACING IT WITH A VERY NICE USED UNIT,IT DOES EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE OLD UNIT

AGENTS RECKON THAT THEIR SYSTEM PROGRAMS IT BUT ITS STILL DOING THE SAME,URGENT ASSISTANCE REQUIRED

What was it doing- or not doing? PRECISELY.

Then what SPECIFIC parts were replaced.

Then, who is this "AGENT"? An authorized, BMW-trained mechanic???

Hoping Weasel chimes in once you add some info, he is a BMW tech

alright...from the top now....

car comes to me with the following complaint after being diagnosed by an AUTHORIZED BMW DEALER IN NORTH WEST,SOUTH AFRICA.

The complaints:

1)Sunroof only tilts a little, Blind doesnt move and when trying to open the sunroof completely (slide) it opens just less than a quarter way and stops. Owner was told by an EX-BMW Technician who took it to the dealer workshop for diagnosis that the sunroof repair kit should be bought and fitted. After doing the math it worked out to R15000+ including parts and labor. Owner tells me to source a COMPLETE USED SUNROOF SETUP which i did, after fitting the replacement the problem remains. I have INITIALIZED IT A FEW TIMES BUT IT REFUSES TO PLAY BALL. AND AS MY INITIAL COMPLAINT WAS,AFTER BEING @ THE DEALER FOR PROGRAMING (WHICH THEY SAY IT DID PROGRAM), THE PROBLEM REMAINS THE SAME!!!!

2)HANDBRAKE ACTUATOR WAS REPLACED WITH A USED UNIT @ THE SAME TIME DUE TO PARK BRAKE FAILURE AND ALSO "PROGRAMS" BUT DOESNT WANT TO RESPOND AND OPERATE NORMALLY,WHAT COULD BE THE ISSUE???!!!

CAR IS WITH ME FOR ALMOST 3 WEEKS NOW AND THE OWNER IS GETTING A TAD BIT UPSET
