Either pumping urea from the storage tank to the active tank or burning off the particulates in the filter or both.

Does anyone know what the 35d is doing just after engine shut down?

p.s. we have a little over 4k miles on the 35d. Nearly all of our driving involves round trips between 25 and 100+mi. It has not gotten to freezing temps yet here in the Texas Hill Country.

Yes, I have heard these same noises after the car is turned off. I hear a high frequency countinous beep and maybe after 5 mins or so everything shuts down completely. really weird initially I thought my car was trying to transform into one of the bots when I am done driving it

What is it (not owning an X35d myself)? Urea? Is this something you can fill yourself or a dealer only type situation?

Thinking of upgrading to an X35d in the future, but I'm a do-it-yourself kinda guy...

You can add the urea solution yourself. Check out the owners manual (freely downloadable) to see how easy it is if you'd like.

You can add to it, but once a year it needs to be flushed and filled at the dealer...

There are a lot if misconceptions about Diesel Exhaust fluid, even in the heavy Duty trucking world, as all engines in 2010 will use SCR/DEF to lower NOx to the new EPA/CARB standards.

Here are a couple of links that have some good information (from a trucking perspective) that may help all understand what DEF is and does.

I have about 1200 miles on mine. Saw the exhaust fluid warning and no start in 987 miles. Restarted the car and the warning was gone and couldn't find it in the vehicle status screen. Should I bring it in or is it just a glitch? Would hate to find out one day that the car would not start due to this. Any way to manually check the fluid level? Thanks.

I would bring it in. I've had mine since January 2nd and never had that message. I just had my oil changed and urea DEF flushed and filled. The first one my dealer has done. It was a messy job.

I had the message come up once, then it went away. I'm not sweating it. I believe, in my instance, it came up because we had been traveling in very cold temperatures for quite awhile. Next day, it just disappeared, once we were out of the cold temps. Hope I'm not being foolish, but I'm not too worried.

Well, 1600 miles on my 2010 and I just got the same warning! 9xx miles to go.

Wonder what's up with that...if it comes up again I'll bring it in I guess...

It might not have been filled all the way at the factory, or you might have a leak...
