Jet Black is now "Special Order"---how much does it cost extra on special order paint or is it just a matter or ordering and no charge ?

Marwan1 04-15-2010 03:38 PM

Sorry if this question has already been answered in the multitudes of posts in this or other threads, but does anyone know if and when the X5 40 d will make it to the US? (the all new 2013 X5, maybe?).

40d is not coming to US. Tri-turbo 45d is coming next year, probably with new 6-series and LCI X6 release. Hopefully it will come to US, but not sure yet.

anzer 04-15-2010 07:21 PM

Have any of you guys in US driven the 50i yet? just curious about performance as I'm thinking of trading my 2010 35d later in the year .... does it feel like a 5.5 sec 0-100km car? (should be about 0-60 5.3 sec in US terms) ...just curious as people are placing orders but perhaps have not driven ?

PasPar2 04-15-2010 07:28 PM

placed an order sight unseen. they wont be in the showrooms for another week or 2

anzer 04-15-2010 08:01 PM

ok thanks ....

will be very interested to get your views .... the 50i could turn out to be real bang-for-buck as far as BMW's by the kilo go ...

I know people are falling in love with Diesel ..but I just dont do enough Miles to really care to be honest ... having two young kids has denied me the 911 for a few more years ..so I'm thinking that at least 50i would let me have some performance fun for now ..

speaking of performance ..any of you guys ordering Adaptive Drive ?

PasPar2 04-15-2010 08:29 PM

I typically go for a v6 but with the lease programs being what they are, and the appeal of the twin turbo v8 - I decided to go for that this time. The lease payment delta was not outrageous like it was the previous times I tried to compare.

I wouldnt go for diesel b/c I dont drive enough to care about its MPG, I dont care for the distinct sound it makes, it doesnt appeal to me for 2011 being that is seems outdated compared to the 40d and I lease my suvs and the diesel program is very bad.

Side note, I have a 7 and 4 year old... a car seat and booster seat in the 911 is all you need. They actually prefer the 911 over the x5 but they only get to ride in it rarely (nothing farther then a few minutes away - ice cream, beach, park etc) so maybe that's the reason.

anzer 04-15-2010 09:28 PM

Thanks for that ...

My kids are 5 and 3 so still small enough to get into a 911 ... but we wanted something for weekend trips and potential ski trips etc ..in saying that we're so busy working that weekends end up just catching up on house duties etc ... I know if I had 911 then I'd be more tempted to take for weekend drives :)

911's here are about $150k AUD secondhand (2007 type model) - not cheap ... then again 50i will end up pretty close to that by the time onraod is factored in ...

perhaps I just wait for 135i M and buy a X1 for family runabout ? that way I get both !!

lots to think about ....

arjuno 04-16-2010 02:43 AM

Paspar, when are you able to pick up your 50i? I won't be able to pick up my car until early June (sigh), even though its just about finished and heading to VPC soon. I just couldn't get time off to make the trip for the pick-up. If you pick up your car in the next 2-3 weeks, snap some pics and post please!!

PasPar2 04-16-2010 08:11 AM

early June here as well. Scheduled to complete late may + transport to NJ...

Been trying to get ZAP + 20 added and no go on the 20's right now for some reason - my car isnt in prod yet so my CA will try next week.

Anyone picking up an 11 should snap some pics - we should get a thread going for just that :)

arjuno 04-16-2010 03:01 PM

Wait, if the car is still is in production 112 status, why can't you add ZAP and 20" rims? That makes no sense, the dealer can connect to an up to date network. He would be able to tell you right away about that and change the order instantaneously.

PasPar2 04-16-2010 03:03 PM

Its not in production the "order has been received" according to the site and there is no completion date there as well. CA is telling me that "the system wont take the order for 20's" he said there were supply issues in march that may have resurfaced.

rans09vert 04-16-2010 11:28 PM

I drove an X6 50i. I first drove a 2010 X5 4.8i, and then the X6 50i, back to back to compare. X6 is basically the same from the front seat forward. Same motor and hp, and about the same weight. Loved the power of the 4.8. But the 4.4 twin turbo is tremendously stronger. It is a true low 5 second 0-60, maybe faster! It is pretty darm close to an X5M. Night and day over the 2010 4.8i, of which I had an order, cancelled, and ordered the 2011. I ordered a 50i in sparkling bronze with cinammon brown leather interior, 20" 336 rims, with most options. Mine is completed and being shipped now. I am in LA, and told I will recieve it in 2-3 weeks. That is if there is no delay in the shipping process. I will snap pictures as soon as I get it.

May I ask what you are paying, and what options you have? I'm very curious to see how they are pricing them, and what I can expect come next year when my lease comes up. You can PM me if you don't want to reveal this info to the forum.

PasPar2 04-19-2010 12:18 PM

the lease payment might double or half it self in a matter of months, let alone a whole year.

BMW Could halt U.S. X5 and X6 Production Due to Ash Cloud

Quote:

A volcano in Iceland has caused a world of hurt for European airliners and travelers alike, as thick ash in the atmosphere has caused the cancellation of an estimated 63,000 flights. A new report from BusinessWeek suggests that even the auto industry could be affected by the hazardous ash if airlines continue to stay grounded. BMW spokesman Mathias Schmidt has told BW that the German automaker may need to shut down its Spartanburg, South Carolina, which produces the X5 and X6 crossovers if planes remain on the ground more than two additional days.

So, how does the April 14 eruption of the Eyjafjallajökull volcano control the fate of manufacturing in South Carolina? BMW ships transmissions and other components from Germany to its sole U.S. plant via air. If BMW can't get parts to Spartanburg soon, the plant will be temporarily shut down. A bit of good news has come in the past 24 hours, though, as scientists say the volcano currently isn't shooting any ash into the atmosphere, though seismic activity in the area of the eruption is still said to be very high.

That's nothing wait till the Mt. Eyjafjallajöasdfasfasdgdhyetehsdfgmcvndsryerert354 tu457edfbxfnfvghfxdfkull volcano blows. That's like 50 times bigger and the ash cloud would surely disrupt Toyota production.

Miester, toyota is blaming their sticking pedal on ash these days - have you heard?

X5 Meister 04-19-2010 07:42 PM

I knew it. Those guys. And apparently the chief suspension test driver for the Lexus SUV driver claims the consumer reports track was covered in a fine layer of ash, thus the poor handling.

Is this Carbon Black or Blue?

x1singh 04-20-2010 01:49 PM

Looks blue to me, if it is carbon black makes me glad i ordered black shapire:p:

sheikh36 04-20-2010 02:08 PM

is that deep sea blue??

panbob 04-20-2010 02:11 PM

Has anyone ordered a carbon black by any chance? I am primarily considering the M package to get a carbon black. Worth it?

MFL101 04-20-2010 02:38 PM

That's deep sea blue. Carbon black is much much darker.

CB is one of the best colors BMW has produced, very classy and sporty all at the same time. I had a CB M3, loved the color. I highly recommend.

I wouldn't say that. It looks better then the regular kit and the current M Sport, but I still like the X5M design best.

Obviously, we both have 09 M Sports!

I might upgrade to an X5M in the future, but I have a hard time justifying driving a USD $100,000+ car in the snow and rain.

Did you order your X5M yet?

Indeed, we do!

I think it is worth it (555hp!!). And it is not too much more than the X5.

My dealer does not take orders, but I have booked one of the first 2011 X5M's (fully loaded) to come in and have requested the colors of my choice. I am in no hurry to buy a new car, although I want one; so I am unsure whether I will get this one or wait until October to get one with the new cameras.
I am also still considering a Range Rover (Secondary car, maybe)..

Viperfreak2 05-03-2010 07:37 AM

Interesting. So now, with a good basic suspension geometry, the software guys just 'tune' new cars with code changes.

Reflectors - you can see the camera flash in the paint.

X5 Meister 05-24-2010 01:06 PM

That's what I thought, though I need to ask someone who gets the LCI in Europe. In the past BMW has used rear reflectors like those for actual lights. The E46 3 series in Europe had such a setup. I wonder if that will be the case with the X5.

I think it's remarkable how ugly that yellow front reflector looks on some colors. BMW went through all the trouble for such a clean look and it seems destroyed by that big dripping egg yolk on the front bumper. Anyone know if it can be replaced with a white reflector?

I do not think BMW will do it unless I am mistaken. It is easy to remove it and paint the reflector to match paint though.

Beautiful color. Did you add spacers with those wheels?
Your X needs a drop to go with that wheel setup.

vandne 05-26-2010 11:29 PM

No spacers, just normal staggered fitment from what I know. I do have the extended arches on order, I'll add pics once they're on. The blue is great, similar to Lemans blue which I had on my 06 X5.
Not sure about the drop, get some decent snow around here!

Viperfreak2 05-27-2010 07:56 AM

Interesting tread design. Looks like it pumps all the road water outward. Must really piss-off the pedestrians!

vandne 05-27-2010 08:44 AM

The tires are Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta. My first time trying this on any vehicle. I have not tried them in the rain yet, but on dry pavement they definitely handle amazing. I find the ride smoother (as does my wife) than the stock 18" Bridgestone RFT's.
I was leary to try this brand, but after reading many positive reviews had to give them a try. Some of the info I found is at http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...ns-anyone.html

alexmish 05-27-2010 11:57 AM

Are vreds rated as all-season or summer-only tires?

X5 Meister 05-27-2010 02:36 PM

They are summer tires, however they handle incredibly in the wet. They are not winter tires (as with all summer tires really). Get in on the group buy before it ends!

Foxx 09-06-2010 11:48 AM

So they completely removed the front reflector and replaced it with a camera? I thought you had to have it in the US.

I didn't read all 47 pages, so lmk if this has been said yet; why are there few pix about 3/4 into the shoot with a different bronze 5.0? Notice the license plate going from South Carolina to California, but it looks like the same car though.

New X5 Diesel Owner Shortly...with press release I am rethinking .....

With some of the upgrades coming this Spring (when is that?) do you think it's worth the wait? It seems some of the options are pretty nice upgrades.

I also wonder could some of the new upcoming phone and radio upgrades be added to my vehicle:dunno: later at a reasonable price if I take delivery now?

If anyone has some thoughts let me know....Thanks....
