Agree. CASE CLOSED.

BMW decides what year the car IS. Does not matter AT ALL when it was built. MFG has full authority to decide what YOU and THE DEALER will call it.

On limited production cars you can have a chassis picked from a lot build early on that may span two model years- indeed it can start in 2006 and end in 2008 (just saying)... it is all an academic exercise, it is what BMW or Porsche or Koenigsegg or Ferrari puts on the VIN that defines the MY.

In ROW (Dubai is ROW, BTW) there may be way different 'cut offs' for production versus MY designation. the ol' "October rule" may not apply.

The VIN designation is the be all, end all.

IMHO

Agree. The MODEL YEAR is determined by the VIN and that's all that matters. This should be the same in all countries.

Crazy thread indeed.

Just to summarize, as I find the discussion a bit confusing:

(1) The selling dealer said it is a 2009

(2) The Registration says it is a 2009

(3) The bill of sale says it is a 2009

(4) The VIN says it is a 2009

But a parts guy told you he came up with a production date of 04/08

Is that a correct summary?

-Vehicle production date was 04/08

Is that a correct summary?

Yes, you are correct.
