What year is my X5?? Please help
So a year and some months ago I bought a loaded "2009" X5 4.8 M Sport. I was at the dealer today and decided to check if my car was equipped with the 6NF(?) smart phone integration WITH AUDIO which I was told it had when I purchased the car and the iPhone dock. Turns out it doesn't. The parts person gave me a print out of my cars options and details. I was going over it on my way home, and saw that my X5 Production Date is 2008-04-04 in the printout.
Is my X5 a 2008 or 2009? I know it might be a stupid question, or stupid for me to not know but I am getting worried/pissed about this. Your help is greatly appreciated! |
Could be wrong on this, but I thought 09 production started October 08.

Sounds like your parts person ran a VIN check - I've had this done also to confirm that the car I was paying for had the right options... if it says your Production Date is 2008-04-04 then your car is a 2008 build.
Now I don't think this applies in your case but there is a difference between Build date and Compliance date. For example, mine has a production date of Dec 02 2009 - so it is a 2009 build BUT it was complianced in Feb 2010, so some dealers would try to say that they are selling me a 2010 car. However, when it comes time to sell, buyers/dealer will go by the Build date when valuing that car. My dealer first told me the car he was selling me was a 2010 vehicle, but I did my research and asked the question, and eventually got the whole truth - my car is a 2009 build, but it is a 2010 model (because it has the HDD nav, new iDrive and TopView camera). Although it was 2009 build, it did have the 2010 features, and I needed a car quickly so I took the deal. Your car will have a Build plate (pop the engine hood open - on mine its in top left corner somewhere) that will confirm the Build date. It will also have a compliance plate (mine is on the door jamb of front passenger side), which will tell you the compliance date. |
I'd say the only thing that matters is the year on the cars title. I'm also not sure how that is done outside the USA.

EdwardL is correct.
Watch build dates and compliance dates very carefully. When you go to trade-in a vehicle with BMW, their price will be based on the build date. When they sell you the car they will try to sell you the compliance date. I've been stung on this before. I have noticed that in a private sale, many people don't understand the difference and will pay based on the compliance date. |
Take a look at this VIN Decoder This is the number that matters.

the last 2010 x5 rolled off the lines on 3/31/2010. 4/1/2010 + are 2011's (Info provided by my CA so take it with a grain of salt)

If you're 2009, it should say xdrive48i on the side no? 2008 would just say 4.8i.

BMW A FE81 0 8 2009 Those are the 4 answers for the VIN decoder. It might be a 2009 after all. |
