Hey cybervinn, congrats man, any other details about "planted" feeling and anything else worth mentioning about the wheels?

Also, is the tire monitor light on, on your instrument panel? I was told by my dealer if I change the tires, the Flat Tire monitoring light will stay on.

Thanks! They still feel "planted" because I thought switching to all-seasons I would lose "grippiness" with the road and with the increase cushioning cause the ride to feel "mushy" and less sporty. Neither was the case. Because I've only had my X5M for a short time (only 300 miles on my stock wheels) I have to state that I didn't really push my vehicle with the Bridgestones (still haven't passed my break-in period). This is not to say the Bridgestones weren't good, I probably wouldn't notice the firmness on nice smooth roads. I actually expected a firmer ride with those tires, but living here in NY where there are lots of pot holes it starts to gnaw on you due to the frequency. I got the all-seasons earlier than I wanted to for fear of more snow hitting here in the North East. I wouldve love to have waited till after my break-in period to really put the Bridgestones to the test.

As for the Low Tire Pressure indicator light being on, I think my installer reset it for me. Once you reset it, the computer recalibrates. You can reset it yourself via the iDrive controls, under Vehicle Information if I remember correctly so its not a problem.

Excellent. I'd be very much interested to hear more about these Conti DWS tires from you in a week or so; about feeling, handling, performance on tight turns, speeding etc...

What size did you get if I may ask? Any pictures?

cybervinn 02-26-2011 01:39 AM

I got the stock sizes for my vehicle which are the 275/40/20 fronts and 315/35/20 rears. I just got my car back from the installer this evening so it was too dark for any good picture taking. I had planned on taking some pics any way because I got some mudflaps installed too. There are not too many pics out there with a good view of the X5 with flaps installed so I wanted to post some for those that might be interested in installing them. I'll try to take some pics tomorrow if the weather cooperates and post them.

Looks like they just sold-out of the Conti DWS tires at Treadepot.

Hey Cybervinn, any luck with the pics?

I installed the Conti DWS 19" on my 2011 35i two weeks ago. They are fantastic tires.

Great traction in a 17" snow storm and more importantly, not the jarring ride over bumps like the OEM Bridgestone runflats.

Overall ride is much improved. Can't say enough good things about them.

And I owe a thank you to the Discount Tire guy that hunted them down for me. They are very hard to find right now.

Hey, I've got these on my E60 AWD as the winter setup and I love them.

The only gripe - if it can even be called that - the sidewalls tend to flex under hard, near-limit cornering. Personally, to me that is a big deterrent, but that's why I only use these for the winter/wet weather setup. Also, keep in mind: this flexing I'm talking about is at the very limit of handling of a very capable sport sedan platform (E60) - X5/X6 drivers may never reach that limit at all.

Anyway, I love these tires and recommend them to everyone, and I know quite a few people who also have these - never one complaint. Definitely a great tire. I've had mine since about a year ago and they are showing barely any signs of wear, which would be in line with their wear rating (which is very high).
