Successfully coded my E70
Coded:
1. Windows up / sunroof close with keyfob 2. Mirrors fold on lock with keyfob 3. Disable annoying iDrive disclaimer 4. Hazzard double blink (instead of flash, pause, flash pause, its now flash, flash, pause, flash flash, pause) 5. Foglights active with high beams 6. Corner light delete 7. Digital speedometer (Even though I already have HUD) I still have to code the trunk close from the button inside and also the keyfob. |
Awesome. Its something I'm looking into when we get ours.

Its already in that thread, there is a pdf guide on using the INPA and NCSEXPER software.

CAS KOMFORT_EJECT nicht_aktiv -> aktiv at the same time it will Unlock doors when engine off/key ejected - as above, HOLD the start/stop button. I don't even press the park button. I come to a complete stop, then hold the start/stop button. I did most of those too mainly because I wanted the tailgate to close with the fob and the console button. If anyone in Atlanta needs it done send me a PM and I'll put you in contact with the guy that did it for me.

I understand that you are only changing active/non-active parameters, but if they are available and BMW did not add them, I wonder if there is a reason for it. Most of these modifications done by coding are not available as an option, so BMW is definitely not trying to charge us to add those features. |
Did anybody ever asked the dealer if the could perform the changes? Removing the warning would be out of the question, but for example closing the rear lid with the fob is something that should have been programmed from day 1

Might consider coding my pop's X5 if I feel generous (it's a lease); already going to ask someone to code the E90. My X3 was coded back in March so I feel kind of cool motoring around with Euro-spec headlights, getting rid of the key chime was a HUGE improvement, and various other improvements. |
Something I hadn't thought of, but some of these very well may void any insurance claim in case of an accident. Imagine totaling the truck and the insurance company telling you you're SOL since your headlights or warning message didn't meet spec.
Hrm... |
Quote:
It's silly how FMVSS is so strict yet a Euro-spec car would meet many state requirements. Virginia has nothing in its code on vehicle reflectors or emissions controls (partly because the state has no emissions inspection), although it does say DRLs have to turn off if the blinker is located very close (example: Audi A4). |
What exactly are you two referring to? Is it the euro-spec headlights? What is the difference?
|
I'm not speaking about any one code in particular. What I am saying is, if for some reason you got into an accident, I would definitely not put it past the insurance company to plug their computer into the car, see that defaults are changed, and deny you your claim. "Mr. Smith, we regret to inform you that you're out of luck because your car did not have the proper warning displayed upon startup on the display screen". "What's that have to do with someone hitting me at 25MPH?" "It doesn't matter, it's been changed from factory default. Go buy a Hyundai".
|
Quote:
If every single mod has possible ramifications on insurance, then almost everyone on this board would be guilty of it. Perhaps someone will sue me for removing the airbag warning sticker on the sunvisors. |
Still this doesn't answer me what does the euro-spec headlights mod change in operation?
|

For my older X3 (before corona rings were introduced for the LCI in 09/06), there was a small bulb that fit in the upper corner of the high beam, similar to the E46 and many other cars. For North America since the blinker functions as the parking light, the small bulb is deleted. So once I deleted the amber light as the parking light, I had to put in that extra bulb. The blinker still works fully as designed. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...X3/Pic1007.jpg Of course, in Europe they don't have the reflector embedded in the corner or the wheelwell (in the case of the E70) but I'm not going to go thru that trouble. |
Thanks for posting. I am going to order the cable now.
|
Thanks for the info AZ.
Has any of you seen the size of that instruction PDF.. It is crazy long. I thought it would simple hack in get out, but there is whole lot you have to do.. I am afraid of bricking my BMW. |
Thanks a lot for all the info. I just got my cable, too.
I need to change my radio frequency to show even numbers though. Do you guys have any clue if we can do this with the NCSExpert software and this cable? Thanks again Smiler51 |
Got the cable and the installation seemed to go well. However, I can not find the E70 in the menu. What am I doing wrong? Thanks!

It's in the Inpaload start menu . We got F1 to F10 listing all models except the E 70. I just downloaded a newer version today. Hopefully it will help.
|
Ok this is how far I got. The car is communicating with the Laptop, both black dots are on, and the VIN loads in the NCS expert. Before I proceed, (I am very careful here) a few questions to the experts:
-In the Inpaload menu there a lots of models under F3-F9 but no E70. (as shown in the instruction PDF where the writer chooses the E90) Will this be an issue later on? -I am working with an E70 2010 Diesel. I did download the v41 daten files but I am not sure if I need to copy and paste them for the 2010. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. |
^^ Don't worry about doing the airbag tests, INPA doesn't have the E70 by default. There is a file called laden.bat, run that to update your daten files. You will still need to copy files manually to 3 subdirectories though.
|
Has anyone done a step by step instructions for 2012 E70 LCI? The instructions in the PDF is vague when it comes to picking the right file/mode, and I wouldn't want to mess anything while trying to cancel the amber lights.

That's awesome how easy it is to do these things these days.
|
I am going to be getting my car coded this week and just had a question about the M-HUD.
The pic shows what gear the vehicle is in in the middle. RPMs in the colored circle, speed in small numbers on the bottom right. Is that the only setting? Is it possible to show the speed in the middle of the circle and gear in the bottom right? I've gotten so used to the HUD, that I never look down to look at speed anymore and it's nice to have the big numbers staring you in the face on your windshield. |
Ok, I can tell you have to have HUD to take avantage of the m-hud. Oh well.
There are other things I would love coded on my 2008 X5 4.8. The foglights come on automatically when the headlights come on. Question : If you code the mirrors to automatically close when the door is locked with comfort access or the keyfob. Does the mirrors then automatically open when you unlock the doors? Anyone in or close to Western North Carolina want to help me out with the coding (help me out as in doing it for me). I will pay for the help. |
Hi,

Sounds like with mhud though, you get an option in idrive to turn mhud on and off, so I could have traditional speed on window and then turn on mhud on the occasions that I want it. Right?
|
Is this calibrated correctly for either the regular gas or diesel engine. Isn't this calibrated for the m engine only and therefore isn't this setting pointless unless you have a real m engine ?
The diesel engine only revs to approx 5000 rpm. |

Has anyone ever had problems with coding? Any features that work before but not work after coding?
I have a late January 2012 build, actually just finished on January 25th and is shipping to the dealer. I would really like to have the mirrors close on lock, idrive disclaimer removal, trunk raise and lower with key fob. Now, how can the mhud be calibrated? Just ordered the cable but a little worried, seems a little hackish. |

Anyone coding near Montreal, Qc ?
Locally, I had a bet for 150$, which I find a little exagerated. |
I'm having problems reading only a couple ECU modules so i'm thinking something is out of date or missing....
I can't read FRM or RFK or HKL, KOMBI JBBL I have v41 and an 08 x5. says something about edibas or files missing... where the hell can i find everything up to date for download... I've been looking everywhere and can't for the life of me find anything up to date. I wanna start fresh cause I have a couple options left I'd like to code but no luck accessing those modules while CAS CAPPL AGB worked. |
You are definitely out of date. You can torrent some of the daten files but they are large. MAKE SURE YOU GET THE FULL VERSIONS! It saves you a lot of hassle. And if my memory serves me correctly, you have to update one version at a time. ie. v41 -> v42 ->v43... You can't go directly from v41 -> v47 or else things get lost in translation. (at least that was what i was taught anyway). Hopefully someone chimes in soon.
It was a real pain in the neck for me to update to the current version. It got to a point where 80% of the modules can be coded, and then the rest, you were required to find missing files and replace them with the newer version. |
hello. i just had some remote coding done. i had the m-hud enabled and now i can only program one of my steering wheel buttons. my whole settings menu is different. i have a mdrive option, etc. can anyone tell me if its possible to just add the mhud without messing up the other settings and losing the diamond button functionality?
|
Quote:
MHUD = 1 programmable button non-MHUD = 2 programmable buttons That's why I went back to non-MHUD. You can't have navi info on with MHUD either, which is another drawback. Note: You can uncheck MHUD in the options, which reverts back to the non-MHUD style. However, since the option is still coded in, you still only retain 1 programmable button. The only way to get back to 2 programmable buttons is to re-code and remove the options that provide MHUD. |
^^ I told him I reverted, M-HUD is kind of useless
|
thanks for the responses fellas. i thought it looked pretty cool and would be a cool feature, but.... i could hardlly sleep last night wondering what else has been inactivated from my coding session. im waiting for the guy to get back to me to change it back. i downloaded bmw standard tools and started following the steps to do it myself, but chickened out. that bmw coding forum has diy directions all scattered around. i need a step by step to just change it back.

Hello BlueDragon and all!
Being new to these forums as a first time BMW owner I've read this entire thread with great interest. Bought my wife a '12 X5 50i in July and was so jealous of her ride every time I got to drive it I got a '13 X5 50i for my self a few weeks ago. As far as I can tell all this coding should be compatible with her '12, but does any one of you know if my '13 can be done as well? Also, is there anyone out there in the greater Los Angeles area that is experienced in doing this and interested in making a few shekels in the process? Cheers! |
Coding done:
- LCI tail light retrofit - 'DVD in Motion' enabled (on a CCC) - Side-markers disabled - Double-blink Euro hazards - Open/close windows/sunroof with key fob - Power fold mirrors with key fob - Key fob eject with engine off - Unlock doors when key fob ejected - Seat belt chime disabled for driver - Remove iDrive warning when starting car - Wipers complete full cycle when ignition is off - Digital speedo - Low beams on when unlocking - Increase Angel Eyes brightness - 'Key in ignition' door gong disabled - Auto Tailgate open/close with key fob and button inside - Opening doors interrupts window roll up disabled - Enable fog lamps with high beams - Enable fog lamps with high beams flash - Registered new battery (coding was not needed) Special thanks for info posted by blue dragon, revtor and Triple_O on various forums. |
Do you have a link to the daten files ?
Also how do you do DVD in motion on CCC? I didn't think that was possible! |
Quote:
DVD in Motion, according to quite a number of people (including some pro's), is not possible on CCC. I have a DVD Changer so maybe that's the difference? Here's a video of it. :) Probably worth noting that I will probably never use this feature, for safety reasons, but I wanted to see if I could get it done ;) |
I have the DVD changer too wow I need to find these programs and try this.

Hi guys,
Perhaps someone can help me here..I have done the following coding - Side-markers disabled - Open/close windows/sunroof with key fob - Power fold mirrors with key fob - Remove iDrive warning when starting car - Wipers complete full cycle when ignition is off - Digital speedo - Instrument panel lights always on - Fogs on when headlights come on - Auto Tailgate open/close with key fob and button inside - Enabled brake force lights when braking The trouble I'm having is that my LED angel lights don't stay bright (it dims) when the headlights come on. I have set the correct parameters but doesn't work. I hear someone esle got the same problems when using xenon or LED bulbs in the fogs ?? does anyone know .. :dunno: |
On my 2011 35D, I have to go to settings and select lighting, then turn daytime lights on. That keeps my LED angel eyes bright.
|
Anyone know the code for
rain sensing sunroof close and complete full wiper cycle on shutoff? Also is there any pre lci coding that actually makes angel eyes brighter? I've heard the coding does nothing with lux v3's |

The coding for the sunroof close is kinda useless for rain sensing since it doesn't seem to roll windows up. That total package of rolling windows up and Sunroof closing would be pretty cool.

Coding E70
There's a member here on this forum - TRIPL_O - who did both mine and my wife's X5s remotely just a week ago. Exceptionally professional, simple and smooth process over the phone and internet. Even sent me a loaner cable. Though I decided to purchase one my self so I would always have it handy if some new coding was needed.
I'm am relatively geeky my self, but my time is far too valuable than to start learning the coding from scratch and in the process possibly jeopardize our brand new 2012 and 2013 X5s. The cost is far more than reasonable and in hindsight I wouldn't have done it any other way. If you've got any questions just hit me up and I'll try to answer. Cheers! H |
Quote:
glad to see the process was painless i've seen my E46 coded before and looked simple enough but your definitely right in regards to not wanting to mess anything up so i'll probably do exactly what you did and have TRIPL_O code mine remotely to then i'll purchase a cable incase i want to add anything else |
it was a bit intimidating at first but you get the hang of it. and plus, if you make a back up of your stock settings, it's a simple copy and paste =)
|
TRIPL_O did my coding. I can recommend his work.
Then I purchased LCI tail lights and I wanted more coding done. So I purchased the cable and got myself trained on using it and the software. I'm very experienced with computers but less so with cars. The learning curve was steeper than expected but I can do it all now. I tried virtual machines under Windows 8 and under Windows 7. Didn't work under Windows 8 and way too much trouble under Windows 7. With a lot of effort, managed to add Win XP to my Win 8 laptop. Then all good. Make sure to use Win XP to keep things simple... Oh, and my E70 X5 is in the dealer shop right now; they are trying to resolve a DSC fault error and have even connected to BMW NA now for diagnostics. I know they've done software update so all my changes are probably gone. I'll be ready to redo them when I get my car back... |

I've got daten files I could send to you, haven't tested to see if they work as I haven't received my cable yet

Bmw INPA Ediabas, NCS Expert tool, WinKFP - BMW forum. Diagnostics, coding, programming, repair BMW vehicles. scroll down to the software section and there's a link so some eastern europe site. I downloaded it there. It's about 650MB. Thanks for the offer on the daten files, but another member here already sent me the files. I'll try this whole coding deal once i get the cable. i'll keep you posted. |
Search for a torrent called "BMW Coding Tool Pack"
It's well packaged with the software and DIY guides. In the comments they also include a link to and another torrent with the latest Daten v47.1 |

*EDIT* n\m clicked the wrong link, found it.. thanks  |

The Coding pack only includes v47.1 for E89. There is another torrent with just daten files and has folders for multiple chassis including E70

Now, I'm just waiting for the cable to get here and I can try coding. Thanks for this tip! This package definitely looks like it's gonna work, well packaged and everything explained. |

X5 / E70 Successfully Coded - Melbourne Australia
I have successfully coded my 10/2012 Manufacture MY13 X5!! :D
The bits I have coded are 1. The iDrive Disclaimer 2. DVD in motion (CIC) 3. Wiper to complete swiping when vehicle is switched off 4. Closing the Tailgate with the internal button (Opening and closing tailgate was available with key fob when I bought the car) 5. Folding Mirrors on pressing button on key fob. (Opening and closing windows and sunroof available with key fob when I bought the car) I wanted to set the Fog Lights to "on" when Headlights were switched on, but I found that this was already activated. I have had my car for just under 2 weeks.... I would like to thank Mark From Tampa who patiently explained and helped me get started. I would also like to thank Chris from BM Technic in the UK, whose Cable, Software and assistance was all it took....I do not have any vested interest in BM Technic, but Chris' cables and software is ALL YOU NEED!!! |
just out of curiosity if i were to code an option that i may not have like opening/closing the tailgate from key fob.
what would happen? i'm assuming nothing but just want to be safe. |

So this thread had me looking into doing some coding. Here is the list of things I have found that I want to do so far.
Double Blink Hazards Remote trunk close Disable iDrive Disclaimer Remove IDrive warning when starting the car Complete wiper cycle Angel eyes brighter Seat Belt Chime for Driver disable Couple of other things I was wondering about though. Can the passenger side seat-belt warning be disabled? (Annoying when laptop bag sets it off :angryfire) Can you have fog-lights always on when low-beams are on? (auto or switch, again annoying having to turn on separately) Can you disable the directional fog-light turn indicator? (Dumbest thing ever, looks like one is burned out whenever you turn ) |
Quote:
It's funny you bring that up cuz when i first got the x5 I thought the bulb was burnt out or wiring was faulty |
Quote:
-Fog-Lights can be coded to come on automatically when the lights are turned on -Directional fogs can be disabled |
FINALLY SUCCESS!! HAHAHA
It took many hours of reading, and googling to setup the software correctly in Windows so the cable can communicate with the car. It was not easy, but it's worth it. I was able to code the Digital speed and auto-fold mirrors on lock. The two features I wanted the most. Thanks to everyone that helped, especially blue_dragon and digdigital!! |

Will coding cause any issue with a vehicle under the CPO program. If not, anyone in the Sacramento area willing to code for me?
|
my cable finally showed up
the disc is a burnt copy, not to impressed with that as the eBay picture showed otherwise, oh well getting ready to copy all the files over to my VMWare WinXP then i'll pop in the CD to see what it has on it http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/5664/img2060dl.jpg |
quick question...
just popped in the CD that came with the cable to see what was on it. it has an awesome pdf write up for INPA - EDIBAS FULL-English Edition. should i install that or go with thepiratebay BMW Standard Tools 2.12 install don't want to install both incase of C:\ folder file conflictions what do yall think? *EDIT* went ahead with the BMW Standard Tools 2.12 install so far i believe i've got it all installed and missing files or necessary files replaced using BMW Coding Tool, i updated Daten Files successfully, loaded TRC file successfully (haven't plugged into the vehicle yet tho) and ran into a problem updating WinKFP says i have no DATA folder in my SP Daten folder which i don't, checked 3 different Daten file zips i downloaded and they have no DATA folder either??? my Daten folder shows... cfgdat, daten, ecu, format, kmndat and sgdat is there suppose to be a DATA folder? |

Also, when you get to 4) Run step 2\INSTALL\instprog.exe Make sure you copy the entire 02_Step_2 folder to the C: drive, it will not run directly from the CD... It will give you errors. I only found out after some searching on Google. Do the same for 03_Step_3 folder. I just did all this last week, so it's still fresh in my memory. |
edited my post since you replied if it helps with more info..
i've got someone on bmwcoding site sending me another Daten folder so i'll see if it has a DATA folder, if not i'll try your suggestion thanks |

I just used INPA to verify communication with the car, then open NCSExpert to do the coding. |
i was using the BMW Coding Tool since it's all one click button options for the updates
you think once i get to plugging the cable in it might still actually work without updating the WinKFP then? |
Quote:
yea, I don't think you need to update WinKFP... just follow my instructions in the earlier post about running the CD install first. Just follow the included PDF, but copy the step_2 and step_3 folder to the root of C: drive then finish the installation. |
so uninstall the piratebay copy
install CD as stated above then should i try installing piratebay copy after that to update the files? if i wanna use the BMW Coding Tool for coding do i just run NCSExpert in the background? one last thing BMW Coding Tool shows Chasis, obviously E70 then shows Module and has a huge list of options.. what do i choose there? |

i got a proper Daten file finally with the DATA folder and i'm pretty sure i've got the NCS_DIY.pdf file already. it's late now so i'll try testing this all out tomorrow after i drop off my E46 for VCG and VANOS replacement X5 goes in wedsnesday to the dealer to get glovebox half replaced and i'm going to check and make sure my software on the X is all up to date too which means ill just do a test coding thanks again |

I miss my old E46... hope the next owner is taking car of her. |
got software all installed, everything updated successfully as mentioned
jumped over to the NCS DIY and followed it to a T i'm plugged in, key fob is in the slot, following building the profile get to pressing F1 than select CAS, than F3 for ZCS/FS f. ECU and get an error VIN is faulty coapi-2000: EDIABAS or SGBD error IFH-0003: DATATRANSMISSION TO INTERFACE DISTURBED searching google about it now i did notice when i plugged the cable into the computer i had to manually find the USB drivers for it so i selected the driver from the disc in the USB Drivers folder, ftdiport and it installs as a USB Serial Port (COM3), there is one other driver, ftdibus that i didn't try fully installing. any suggestions while i'm google searching? haha i thought i was so close too *EDIT* got error IFH-0003: DATATRANSMISSION TO INTERFACE DISTURBED cleared i had the car sitting to long with the key fob in, turned on the vehicle and my cable LED came back on but now i got another error VIN is faulty coapi-2001: EDIABAS not initiated even tho i see the EDIABAS Server sitting in the toolbar at the bottom |
Did you change it to COM 1 and the latency timer setting to 1??
