Installed the X-pipe in my 01 X5 4.4L
It was only one day of driving but so far I'm unimpressed. I don't remember reading about this raspy high pitched noise at full throttle so I'll check to see if the shop left any leaks in the weld that would make that noise in the coming weeks. Anyone else experience this annoying noise in the higher Rpms? Michael |

No raspy ticky noise from my recent x-pipe install, but for me, it's also not enough of a perceptible sound improvement. There is a sound improvement when the engine and exhaust are cold, but it disappears as the engine warms. However, I've been doing all my listening from the driver's seat. It might sound different from the rear of the vehicle.

Hmmmm.... The change in my 4.8 was signficantly louder, but without any tinny artifacts or raspiness. So loud, in fact, that I was bracing myself for blowing the lid off my underground upgrade club, and having to deal with the missus!
I know it's not a fair comparison, but I don't recall hearing 'raspy' as part of anybody's descriptions from the 4.4 x-pipe installs.... Good luck getting her the way you want her! -Dave

I'm guessing the shop left a small pin hole in the welding process which is causing an exhaust leak responsible for the tick. I'll go to another shop and check it out.
