If in addition to 6FL you also have the 6NF extended music connectivity/smart phone integration option, then instead of the "Y" cable, you could get the iPhone snap-in adapter, which also goes in the armrest - the base plate takes up half the space so you can't miss it. While the iPhone is docked into this cradle it is charging, connected to car antenna for better reception, and enables iPhone music play.

spot on.

was browsing the above catagloue from the BMW international site for the new X5 LCI, just realised the acceleration of the new xdrive35i is comparable to the twin turbo diesel xdrive40d, from 0 to 100km/h, it takes 6.8 and 6.6 respectively! conversely the new xdrive30d is still quite slow, it takes 7.6sec.

very tempted to steer clear of the diesel version despite the extra torque you've gained.

Ah ok cheers for that. I will ensure my dealer throws one of those cables in for me... and perhaps even the phone cradle too. If I recall correctly the car did have provision/connectors for the cradle (but obviously no cradle).

Just make sure you get the right cradle... Here's info I just posted in the Bluetooth forum:

1. If you have the 6FL (usb/audio interface) and/or the 6NF (smartphone integration) options, you must get a USB adapter to suit your iPhone:

Apple iPhone™ 3G S 84 21 2 158 683
Apple iPhone™ 3G 84 21 2 158 683
Apple iPhone™ 84 10 9 164 213

If you have the 6FL but not the 6NF option, you will not be able to play music through your iPhone, even if you get one of the above adapters.

2. If you have neither 6FL nor 6NF, then you need a non-USB adapter:

Apple iPhone™ 3G S 84 21 2 158 682
Apple iPhone™ 3G 84 21 2 158 682
Apple iPhone™ 84 10 9 182 792

A non-USB adapter only enables bluetooth, charging and connection to car antenna. No music play.

Sorry minor correction - AUX-IN connection in armrest is standard. 6FL gives you the USB port in armrest.

Is there a similar Y cable for other phones? Such as the Nokia E71?

atlas 04-12-2010 10:59 PM

FWIW, I've found that part number 84212155175 is for a Nokia E71 snap-in adaptor.

I think the "Y" cable is specific to iPod/iPhone. You would need to get a snap-in adapter (which you've already found) to suit your mobile phone.
