The Australian X5 Thread

Ok, while all the threads in here are informative and have some great pictures I thought it would be nice to have a thread dedicated to Australian owners of the new X5 since specifications and some issues can vary from country to country.

With people just starting to take delivery of their cars this week, they're probably too busy enjoying this awesome vehicle to post just yet. But anyway...

How many Australian owners out there have taken delivery and what vehicle specification do you have?

We have just traded in our Mercedes E320 and our car docks on the 6th of May so we should be taking deliver by the 20th at the latest...hopefully. It's a 3.0D Executive Sports in Space Grey with the Camel Interior and Dark Burl Wood trim. I can hardly wait.

While we were looking to order a custom vehicle, the waiting time and great deal we got on this dealer specced vehicle arving in less than a month prompted us to seal the deal. 2 compromises were made however. The car we are getting does not have the comfort seats or the Hi Fi 12 system. Instead it has the 7 seat option (which isn't bad since we were going to order the rear air suspension anyway) and the DVD entertainment system.

My main concerns/questions:
1. How bad/ok is the standard sound system on Australian vehicles? 6 speakers seems very substandard on a vehicle of this price. I've heard though it may be 6 speakers and 2 subs. Can anyone confirm?

2. Does anyone have the rear entertainment system? Is it capable of playing the cars T.V input while on the move?

3. What is the latest I-drive version that I should be making sure the dealer uploads before delivery?

4. Has anyone in the past gotten BMW's leather and paint protection and is it worth it?

I hope as we start getting our vehicles we can all contribute and make this an informative thread.

Cheers!

Australian experience

I have my Australian X5 Executive ordered after I couldn't get an in stock vehicle.. set down for May production. I was told I couldn't get Comfort seats as there was delay on them (as well as standard 18" wheels) so I got Sports seats instead. I have listened to the 6 speaker sound system sounded quite ok, although I have ordered the Hi-Fi 12 system. I have also just enquired about the Ipod USB integration option to see if I can get that built into the car. Car ordered is Sapphire Black 3.0d with 19" wheels ,sunroof, beige leather, bamboo wood grain, running boards, sports steering wheel, sports seats, Hi-Fi speaker system, auto fold-in mirrors. Didn't get the sport pack as I didn't want sports suspension...Hopefully will arrive sometime in July if I am lucky. Let me know how your car works out. !!!

I was told today by a dealer that all Australian production is secure until 'The End of the Year', so if you want made to order you would need to wait until December for a car!

James, your car sounds really nice. The X5 looks so mean in Black. We too were advised that there was a delay on the comfort seats, and our order could have been delayed indefinitely. BTW, how much did the dealer qoute you for the ipod integration? I'm pretty sure its a dealer fitted accesory right?

Luke, perhaps that dealer has sold out for the year but our dealer had allotments that could be ordered now and delivered by August and September. If you're going to order and the wait seems too long maybe try calling around.

Hi, I have become a member today but have been watching for some time. I will be picking up my X5 today in Brisbane, it's a 4.8 Sport with saddle brown and poplar trim, space grey exterior. I have previously had a 3.0, a deisel and the 4.4 and I am looking forward to this new model. I have been waiting for 5 months now, luckily the comfort seats are included in my car (first thing I checked when I was told my car had arrived at the dealer).
I will be able to answer questions and post some pics by tonight.

Ipod integration

Quote for ipod usb integration is $600 AUD , I think it is only a factory fit option although one would think it wouldn't be that hard to do at the dealer.. I am hoping for that price it is more than just a cable into the central idrive interface then to the centre console... no doubt in a couple of months someone will discover a DIY option !!!

Good to see a thread dedicated to Aussie owners

Bit the bullet as I now have a young family and decided to trade in the 330ci - I just ordered my new x5 on the weekend - 3.0d executive, saphire black/saddle brown bamboo trim sports pack, 20inch wheels, xenons/adaptive/high beam assist, running boards, panaromic sunroof, comfort windscreen/anti dazzle mirrors.

I thought I swung a pretty good deal with a corporate discount - knocked about $10k off the recommended retail (but who really knows)

Spent some time today listeing to the difference between the standard stereo and the hifi loudspeaker system- couldnt really hear any noticable difference, would like to know if anyone has heard the hifi 12

I was told delivery will be Aug/Sept but with no guarantees

Still have a week to finalise colours (toss up is between the black and the space grey) Look forward to see everyones pics.

I did see a saddle brown interior at the dealer - looks fantastic (like an individual option)

Whoa 10k off sounds like a great deal and your car seems pretty loaded.

Will be good to see some pics and hear some driving impressions from some locals.

Congratulations. So is the car everything you expected and more? Looking forward to some pictures and review!

Do you know how long it took your car to be delivered from the time the ship docked?
