I believe gresch is talking about some brake dust that has been "baked" on after a while. A usual degreaser/wheel cleaner with a brush would not get this off. You need to use a clay bar and just go over the brown areas and it should come right off.

I believe you will need to try to polish it. it looks stained , doesn't look like embedded brake dust.

Phil,

Question on anodized wheel's lip: Can I apply a sealant or will this chemically ruin the anodized lips? Any suggestions to keep the lips looking shiny? Thanks.

do they have a clear coat on them? or are they raw?

what type of rims are they.

do you have a picture?

anodized is tricky have you contacted the wheel mfg yet?
