You can spend more than price difference between 335 and ///M3 on modding a 335 but still will not get the drive feel of ///M3. That's my 2 cents.

Read Post # 43 onwards in this thread, BMW has been working on ceramic brakes. When we will see it in production is the big Q.

I can't wait to place my order. Fully loaded with every option this time. Do you think they will do Individual when it releases or it will take some time?

I'm very well aware of the differences between all of the ///M and non ///M variants.

Please re-read my post which questioned you to be specific about what you believe the differences will be - beyond suspension tuning, engine/engine related (obvious) differences, cosmetics in the context of justifying pricing in excess of $100K.

My statement was specific that if the X5 ///M is priced greater than $100k (without any CC brakes or mag-suspension), then it's pricing IMO is out of whack.

I'm first in line for the ///M X5 locally, so I'm not speculating on-line for the hell of it.

Okay...so if you're aware, why do you ask? There's plenty difference to me...listing each and every single difference between M & non-M to justify a point is beyond moot...it's one thing to be aware of differences but a whole other thing to actually experience it.

Anyhoo...just highlighting that based on my experience, having tested or driven every model and it's respective ///M variant, there will be a difference. Since you're first in line, you'll know soon enough, right?

Couple of thoughts,

1) I hope we don't get ceramic brakes on the X5/X6 variant. Lets be honest, ceramic brakes are not meant for high performance braking, they are meant for SUSTAINED high performance braking. Meaning, they will not improve braking distance with any real significance, but if you are using them at the track, you are less likely to get fade.
- I have been a Porsche driver for years and a track driver. I would never waste the money on ceramic brakes ****UNLESS**** it was for a RACE CAR. Not a track car, but a RACE CAR. Cause a 1/2 hour run group in a set of Brembo big reads is going to give you all the stopping power you need x1000. But lets say you were running the 24 hours of Daytona, or the 12 hours of Sebring, then I would want ceramics for their longevity.

- So putting ceramic brakes on an X5 or X6 which will never be used for any sort of enduro racing is like putting tits on a bull. Not to mention the high cost of future repairs and their inability to fetch any returns on resale, even in a Porsche.

So why put them on an X5 for $8K-$10k? To show them off to your friends? It's a waste of money. However, if I were buying a M3 which was going to be used for endurance racing, I would consider it. p.s. - lots of guys who race Porsches don't use ceramics even for enduro racing cause they just don't need them, so why waste the money?
- Exactly what benefit and for what application would they be useful for a SAV performance truck? Again, they don't increase performance, just longevity of use.

P.S. - Anybody who does option their X5 or X6 with ceramics, if available, will get a long, long chuckle from me. "Endurance racing your X5 are we?"

This should give you an idea on what kind of brakes are there.

My question to you was rhetorical.. ding, ding. Your attempt to 'educate' me on the nuances of the ///M class is beyond amusing. I know there is a difference, just not one that would justify > $100K IMO - get it?

re me knowing - yes, I will.
