I would DEFINITELY take an X5 M over the X5 4.8i but, you're right, the styling of the X5 M is not great.

Here's a picture of the Space Gray with Aero Kit...

B-line, 2 of 3 items you have listed are options. Wheels and roof rails are options. Did you look closely at the PDF recently posted in X5M thread? One of the pics shows 'The beast' with roof rails. Not sure what exactly you mean by step-up bars?

As for current X5; the fascia will be changed very soon to more like current X6 with new bumpers to accomodate the new beefy engine. Check the facelift X5 thread on that.

Your opinion is based on pics. The beast looks much better in person.

I did look at the .pdf... I'll look again. I didn't see the roof rails as an option so I guess I missed it.. But aren't the roof rails standard on the 4.8 and 3.0?
So if they're standard on those models, why are they an option on the //M??

Oops.. I meant "running boards".. Last time I had running boards on a SUV was on my 1992 Nissan Pathfinder 4door (first year of the 4 door..)
Back then we called em step up bars.. lol..

Also, I don't mind the huge intakes, I think they're cool.

And I do believe you that in person the ///M looks insane. I was never crazy about the pics of the X6 but in person, I like it very much.

See pics with roof rails below. In my opinion, of the 4 M-exclusive colors, the dark color will look agressive on it.

Cool.. Though the roof rails are a little hard to see. Probably cause they are flush with no air pass-through?

What about running boards? You think we will see a majority of XM's with them?

Also, it only says that the X5 and X6 M will have interchangeable wheels. And I think the common complaint is, neither of them are entirely thrilling.

Can't wait to hear about the rest of this car. I know there is an M button on the steering wheel. Assume it's going to be for added HP and stiffer settings.. But since the car isn't an SMGII, but a Dual Clutch Auto.. I'm wondering how intricate the settings will get..

Gotta love the fact that it's an expensive as hell car and they just keep stripping it and adding to the list of "options." I remember back in the day when you could buy a fully loaded 7 series for $40,000. Now a 328i with just a few options will cost you that much.

I don't remember a 7 series ever costing that little. But there is probably a big age gap between us then. Cause I remember when the 3 series (circa 1991) were about $33k-$37k..

Maybe someone can photoshop this picture to have the roof rails and black rubbing strips on the doors... Maybe some different wheels, like the 21" ferric grey 215s, and maybe some kind of black trim on the front (tastefully done though) would help make it pop. (I don't have PS, or I would have a go at it)

Looks very X3ish, as in the X3 with aero kit, etc. No dis to X3 owners, but
it seems to lose some "height" and, the wheel wells are still "unfillable".

Hollow criticism I realize, as I am not in mkt for any $80G+ X, regardless of
stuff on the option list.

The 4.8 X5 looks better in every pic I've seen, for the less than $80g crowd.
