New to the Outpost

Hi guys, Im new! Not an owner of an x5m (yet) but i test drove one a couple days ago and I was was very impressed. The handling is much better than my current car (e63 amg). Which for an SU(a)V is mind blowing! Power is about the same which is very important to me since im a power nut I was also delighted with the transmission. The shift time and throttle blip is perfect compared to the e63, and anyone that says it is too slow is a spoiled monkeyIs it really just an automatic slush box? The top down camera is so damn cool too. Overall a great car to live with, I think.

Im thinking of ordering one to spec over the next couple of days. Im leaning toward black on black or black on saphir and carbon yummy carbon or perhaps aluminum, im gonna have to consult my interior designer

This is a cool little community! Very cordial and helpful. If I may, I d like to ask wether anyone can tell me about upcoming facelifts or design changes etc..What's the scoop with that? Id be a bit bummed if I got one and shortly after they put a nicer or newer looking design out there for me to lust after.

I know the tuning aspect is early days still, but what can we expect power and sound wise (exhaust) for sensible money? any clues?

That's it for now! Thanks all

Welcome!

This is a very cool community.

Eisenmann is working on an exhaust which should be out sometime this summer. There's a tuner out in CA that has gotten about 50hp at the wheels just from a tune. So I think there will be some options in the near future.

Welcome again!

No face lift for X5///M for 2011. After that, who knows? Most BMW facelifts (if they occur) come during MY3 to MY4. I suspect there may be minor cosmetic changes over the next two of years, particularly wheel options and such, but the engine and chassis is new and will stick around for a while. The main facelift coming for 2011 will be for the non-M X5s which will be crossing over from naturally-aspirated to turbo land. Albeit nowhere near the power band of the M.

As for tuning, I'm sure Dinan will easily and safely squeeze 620+ hp from it (if 555 is not enough for ya). It will be a good 10-12 months before that happens, they like to extensively test their mods before release.

Thanks for the information and welcomes! You know, the only machine I have had extensive seat time in (in this category) is the G55. That thing is a beast when you mash the pedal. The exhaust sound is so intoxicating you wanna floor it again and again it is that deep and gutteral. However, it is far from a drivers car, even for an SUV. Youd think that over the 30 years of production they would have realized and corrected the major flaws it has (imo). The brake and gas pedals in, the 05 model atleast, are strange. The gas is further ahead of the brake pedal leaving you having to retract your leg and uncomfortably long way to hit the brake. The handling is absolutely miserable, and the G55 is so springy and bouncy a road trip becomes an all out nuisance after a couple hours. Forget the transmisssion. On the other hand the x5m is top everywhere the G is a flop (ok besides real offroading).

I love modern road tanks, and the G55 as well as the x5m surely pass for them. However, the x5m has the advantage of insane power combined with handling, which, for a drivers machine, is a must. All we need is to "correct" the exhaust sound and we're ready to rumble!

Just rambling....!

If you order one, make sure you do Performance Center Delivery and pick it up at the plant is SC. It's a great experience.

Are you sure? E90 M3 got the facelift in less than a year when the regular E90 got the facelift. I don't think BMW will be putting the old style angel eyes and tail lights on X5 M when the E70 X5 get the facelift in spring. Its cheaper for them to use same material from their suppliers for new stuff then stick to old style.

From what I have heard; other than 6-series and X3, 2011 models of all BMWs will be out in spring.

Really? So when do the '11 models officially roll out, do you know? My dealer tells me delivery takes 5 weeks, so if I order now I suppose it will still be a '10. However, I would certainly hold off ordering a couple weeks if '11 will role out in March or April....!?

There is a plant shutdown in late Feb or early March and they switch to 2011 models once it resumes production(Check X5 facelift thread). I don't see BMW making 2011 models for regular X5s and 2010 for X5 M at the same time. That has never happened. Same reason why they switched to LCI for the newly introduced E90 M3 and they also did for facelift M5 in 2007. Regular and ///M models get the facelift together.
