How is this for a comparison: My most recent Viper 550+hp after mods and I was never impressed by the power 'feel'. 3400 lbs 8.4 liter V-10 with that hp and torque should have scared me every time. People riding in the passenger seat also unimpressed. The past three 135's I've had have all shocked me with the acceleration feel, almost scary at times. Passengers have all commented "this thing is wicked fast!" 300hp and 3400 lbs. Strange to say the least.

Reading these comments, i almost don't want to buy the XM...

I used to have 4.8is and that thing used to be miles sportier then my current 4.8i fully loaded.

If there is no real sensation during acceleration, than it's a waste to buy it.

Then i would think about getting ML63 AMG or Cayenne turbo S at least they dont sound like a 4 cilinder Ford Mondeo

We also had a 4.6is....

No comparison - in any way, shape, or form, IMHO.

Best way is to drive back 2 back. 4.8 needs a set of pedals going up hills and if you really want to move. there's some power in the band around 3k rpm maybe up to 4k then it just starts wheezing. m is totally different. flat torque curve and the power builds and builds. hard not to be blown away by the difference. it will make you giggle like a little girl. it's still a 5k lb car tho and there's just no getting around that.

I had a 4.6is before the X5m and there is no comparison....don't get me wrong the 4.6 was great, but the m is in a whole other league (even in feel IMO)...the m picks up speed so smoothly that often you are surprised to see how fast you are going, so maybe that effortlessness is what people are attributing to lack of feel.

Arrow

I just said the 4.6 is fun to drive , its like a blunt axe. I didnt say theres any comparison really either , they are two very different beasts....

the forty million chimes/ nav reminders from them M get annoying to me.
to just get in the 4.6, close the door, put it into drive & drive is still a blast for me.
I love that car. Simple & brutal ( now that i have driven the M ) to drive.

Uh, ok, buy the Merc/Porsche...enjoy the tailight view of the M!

I think enough people who actually own the X5/6 M have commented on here that it is indeed fast & sporty.
