need help car was jerking

Interestingly, my X3 does not let me start the vehicle after a failed start; the key will not turn to position III (start/crank). I have to turn the key off, then retry it.

My X3 also doesn't like it when I turn the key too quickly. If I turn from off to crank in one fell swoop, it gets caught off guard since the electrics aren't ready. Thus, I turn it to position II, wait for the auto-leveling headlamps to finish, and then start.
