This is great to hear from the folks that are solving their problems with the experience in this thread!

I can also report that my X5 has been running *great* since this set of repairs. We did the Wild West '15 trip with nary a whisper of troubles. I came home for a week and dropped another 1,200 miles on the next week! Since it's been a few months that I've taken it in, I am ready for what is becoming my Fall checkup. I seem to have been doing them in Spring as well.

Anyway, I like to take it in, tell them to look it over and replace anything that leaks, squeaks, whines or wails. I usually leave the wife at home for fear that they'll try to get me into a younger model.

fmugur,
As for your part numbers the seals look correct. I was able to get all at BMW parts counter, they had all on hand. You can also get a trans kit that has seals, plugs (2) , magnets, and new filter.

Here is my invoice for part numbers.

Also noted per a few postings from Doru the software upgrade might really be key too. He has also posted that removing batt connections, then shorting car positive to car body ground as to clear any residual charge from trans computer has helped with the kick.

Make sure you get the fluid level right. I've seen so many posts of horrid shifting, slow to engage etc after fluid changes. It's not hard but be patient and let her cool back off if needed (hours) to get right fill level.

None of it is hard, just a process..

Do please post back what you find.

I did the 6 liter oil change and filter on my 4.8is but the kick is still there, not too bad but it's not a smooth shifting. I did the firmware flush last year on both using winKFP and SSS. I didn't do an oil change on the 4.4 yet since on the 4.8 oil/filer didn't do much. I should try the sealing sleeves on the 4.8 and make sure that gets rid of the kick and then apply the procedure on the 4.4.

Sorry to hear that didn't clear it.

I am really curious when you connect to programman sss what version of software your 4.4 and 4.8 show. When I looking into the software my 4.8is was reading as having part number of software for 4.4. (My post #7 in this thread http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...-one-them.html)

I hope to have my beast back on the road next week after replacing water pump and alternator in hopes of chasing down the noisy golf cart sound.

The versions were right for each. I will connect inpa (it should show the same as SSS) and post the versions for both. I don't know why yours was showing the 4.4 firmware on your 4.8.

I ordered the gaskets for the VB for both X5. I will report back when I get them installed.

Question Transmission holding in gear when making right turn x5 4.8

Does anyone had same problem with 2005 x5 4.8is , when making right turn the trans would hold a gear longer than normal and then kick in to second somewhat harder than usual ? i have seen some post about it but no solutions or reasons for it, please post any feedback if you have and maybe solution that you have come up with. another think sometimes when going around 50 mph and execrating the 4x4 yellow light come on and prevent to go faster on totally dry and straight road, i am planing to change YAW ACCELERATION ROTATION SPEED TURN RATE SENSOR , anybody did that and did it help?
Thank you for any feedback.

bvbazel,

Have you confirmed the fluid level is correct in your trans? Before I took any actions to repair had a bit of hanging in gears when cooler which would clear up a bit when warmer. Part of the theory there is that the fluid does expand when warmer and the trans shifts horribly if fluid is low. However I do not know for sure if 'hanging in gear' can be caused by low fluid.

In my case I found the electronics connector where wire harness plugs into trans had a minor leak (common on these ZF trans). From this, and how many liters of fluid I had to put back in, I think my trans was about a liter low. This plug seal is very easy to change once you drop the transmission pan. However if you are going that far I would encourage you to also drop the valve body (few more bolts) and change the rubber seals between valve body and clutch pack.

What 'we' do know is that the fluid sent from the valve body into trans clutches is under high pressure and so when the rubber seals between the valve body and clutches are 'leaking' the shifting can be delayed. These are the rubber seals a few of us here have replaced.

As for your idea on the yaw sensor, I am not sure. The trans computer sure does take input from the yaw but I saw no worse behavior by my trans when my yaw sensor was fried however that was all before I fixed up my trans to shift better. If you have access to 'software' you can connect and see all outputs from the sensor. Here is a link from a prior issue I worked through (not related to my trans) my post (#4) in that thread shows the output. http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...al-solved.html

Do please post back whatever you learn please.

i did replaced the zf fluid and filter last month the level as where it should but didnt fix the problem, this weekend i am planing to change all the seals by dropping the valve body and change the rubber seals between valve body and clutch pack too , i will keep you guys updated after i am done if it fixed the issue, for now the car drives fine and shifts fine when drive gently without raving it to high speeds from take off. but having 4.8 x whats the point if you cant drive like one .... so i just ordered all the parts as i mentioned in previous post, should have them o Friday so lets hope for this weekend that the issue will be gone , Thank you for your feedback on the yaw i will check that as well before replacing it !!!

Just got back from a dealer because I had to purchase some more items for my transmission and just to let you know if you own BMW X5 I was told that my car test 12 years warranty against rust there was one honest dealer and pointed out to me that I had some rust on the inside of my door right under the seal and this will be taking care of under the warranty after getting two quotes they found more rust under the seals inside the door and they agreed to replace all four doors for free since they cannot be repaired because the rust is on the middle part right where get two parts of the door are welded this part is usually covered by caulking their whole repair will cost BMW over $11,000 my cars 2005 so needless to say besides hopefully getting my transmission being fixed this weekend I have scheduled an appointment with them next week to get the doors done I just wanted to let you guys know so if you don't know about the warranty against the rust that BMW is offering so check your doors on inside if there is a little even bubbling under the paint you're covered and they have to repaint your doors or change the doors altogether on top of it they said it most likely they going to have to paint the rest of a car to match the paint that doors will be painted because the car is 10 years old now, this is just a little tip in case if you guys didn't know it's actually in the car your car manual showing 12 years warranty regardless how many miles do you have on your car as long as you didn't have any paint job done before on your car I will keep you posted as far as my transmission project that I'll be doing over the weekend and let you know if it's fixed my heart gear switching and getting Falls safe sounds transmission light on when accelerating very quickly or turning Sharp right end gear is holding and number one before switching to two
