Only way to tell for sure would be a top speed run to see if has the factory limiter on it or the Dinan one. I would tend to agree that to run the MAF and throttle body you would need their tune. And would definitely want it anyway since tuning is where you are going to get most of your gains from those mods.

As for the exhaust. It is just mufflers. The center resonator remains stock. From what I could find they did not offer a replacement section for that resonator... though I may replace it with a Magnaflow X pipe in the future if, for some strange reason, I get tired of the current noise it makes. Which is awesome!
Engine software removes speed limiter. To tell if you have trans software go to manual mode and choose a gear. The Dinan trans software allows you stay in that gear at any RPM. On the 4.6 the trans goes to third gear when you stop regardless of the gear it is in.

To earn the Dinan badge you had to accumulate a number of points. For the 4.6 that was 10. Exhaust was 3, cold air was 2, transmission software was 1. If the badge is genuine you have more Dinan products than the exhaust and air box. On the 4.6 they offered three stages of engine software depending on the mods. If you have only the air box and exhaust you should still have the matching first stage software to get the most out of them. The engine software was worth 2 points. That still leaves you 2 points to find. The throttle body was worth 2.

OH, but dat exhaust does it for me!!!
It was a pretty good time, but went by really fast. Glad you enjoyed the read and thanks for the congrats. So far I have been more than happy (and lucky) with my sight unseen purchase. It's a better vehicle than I had hoped for in terms of previous care.

Thanks. Not yet, I haven't had time. Our home AC just took a dump (furnace blower motor died spectacularly)... anyone know why there is no retail availability of HVAC parts? I pulled the thing apart in less than 20 minutes and if I could get parts I could have fixed it myself... instead of paying a company twice as much to do it. Also been doing things to the X to get her up to our standards which, if you've read my 4.4i log, you're familiar with. Removing interior, steaming, cleaning, etc, etc. I am also correcting the hack job the PO did on the BSW sub install. At least I hope it was the PO and he didn't pay someone to do this. More info w/ pics to follow in a build log thread. After I get it registered and things settle back down I'll work on finding out who originally owned the beast.

Thanks for the info redliner. I was aware you couldn't just buy the badge... so I guess I'll have to start digging to see what it has exactly. I know it has the exhaust, strut brace, and intake for sure. I am almost 100% sure it has software as well.

Strut tower brace was worth 2 points. It is possible to buy a bogus Dinan badge on eBay but I don't at all think that in your case. I don't see the logic in not matching the larger air box tubing with the Dinan MAF and throttle body. Dinan products had to be installed by a approved installer. Doesn't seem like Dinan would do that. Can you post a picture of how they connected the larger diameter air box tubing to a stock MAF? Dinan tubing out of the MAF and into a stock throttle body would also be larger.

LOL. Hvac is probably one of the best money making gigs in the service industry.

I have some parts loaded up for some R&R on our Wolf stove. Decided to just replace than repair when our Miele needed a repair. Don't you just love price protected MAP parts...

Let me know if lucas stop leak helps you any, I do get the white smoke while idling too long.. so if i'm at the light for more than 2 minutes I put the car in Idle and tap the throttle a little. hahah I love the sound of the stock exhaust. I recently changed my oil to T6 5w40.. I contemplated on doing lucas or liqui moly stop/ oil saver.
I am in Houston as well and have an 06 Imola Red 4.8is since 2008, it has 95K miles now and I did have the valve stem seals replaced in 2012.

Awesome ride and thanks for a very interesting read. I have the exact same 06 Imola red as yours but with a black interior and non Dinan. Enjoy your beast.

^Thanks. I was actually just in Houston this weekend near downtown for an indoor tennis tournament. Took the X5 as it's the only thing large enough to lug the family, plus luggage, tennis gear, and 2 325/35/20 tires to Houston... we drive it A LOT. Didn't buy it to be a garage queen and have added 8000+ miles to it in less than 6 months.

I'll be back there in about a month to have some new wheels/tires installed...

Thanks. I'm surprised my photos are still showing. Stupid photobucket! You should definitely do an "adventure" thread. It's great coming back to it for your own enjoyment from time to time.
