Axle boot clamp crimper

Hey guys.

Which axle boot clamp crimper you guys use? I purchased a genuine BMW boot earlier this year and could not get the clamps to crimp properly. It seems like the clamps were too stiff.

Which crimper you guys are using?

I have this. It worked on an OE boot for me.

I have used this one as it has the anvil to hold the top of the crimp flat

Bought mine at NAPA, it's branded as OEM, but it's the same Oetiker-clamp style as those above, with a flat bit that supports the face of the crimp. Works great.

People that install lawn sprinkler system use the Pliers for Oetiker clamps all the time.

Check either:
1. Lawn Sprinkler supply store...or...
2. Home Depot...$10...

Do not use this clamp. You need one that will crush the top into the clamp, creating a proper flattens to it, so that it doesn't snag or catch shit, oh and doesn't open back up. You aren't dealing with a stationary hose clamp here, these are moving, steering connected parts. Different application and execution. Get the Lisle from my link above. Guaranteed it works, it did for me.

This is the right one to use on our boot bands as we have been saying on the above posts. It has the right "anvil" to stop the humping of the pinch. It will lock the boots bands correctly. Drop the part number into a browser and buy it.
Do not try the pliers method as the bands will not hold as intended. Can you get away with it, sure. How long? Who knows. Do it right or don't post the whines.

30800. CV BOOT CLAMP PLIERS

Based on what did you say this?

If you don't know for sure, please don't spread false info.

Give me a break, I have been using the Home Depot pliers (designed for the same Oetiker clamps used in underground lawn sprinkler system) for 10 years. I have done tons of CV boots, from Volvos to many BMWs. These CV boots are made by GKN-Lobro and the ears are the same.

The Lisle tool will work but is not any better than the Home Depot tool.

Attached is a photo of the GKN boot and the usual GKN clamps for reference...

dude, grab the real deal crimps. They have an anvil that punches down that clamp. What you have is just a blunt cutter with no anvil. They are not the right tool, period. The fact that you have been using them is fine, but it still doesn't make it correct. The only false info, is your post, it is plain fact.

What you posted will basically just do this to the clamp. This is wrong. You will not get the dent in the middle. This is crucial to it staying locked.

Better image of the lislie crimper. You see that anvil between the jaws.

Action shot.

Proper crimp. See that dent in the hat of the crimp, yea you need that.

So yes, please stop posting misleading advice on the internet. If you are happy how it works for you, keep it that way. No need to come at me with posting wrong info. Clearly you are convinced this is how they do it, good, and good luck.

Oh and I know for sure. Plumbing does not spin at 100mph, it doesn't move, it doesn't turn, it doesn't flex. A plumbing crimper is not the right tool.

Dude,

Misleading advice is from yours, not mine.

What I said is: the Home Depot pliers work just fine.
Listen, what I say is BOTH my pliers (posted above) and yours work.

In your earlier post, you said "Do not use this clamp. You need one that will crush the top into the clamp, creating a proper flattens to it, so that it doesn't snag or catch shit, oh and doesn't open back up". It is simply a stupid statement to make (beside using profanity in your language)...

The fact that I have done close to 100 GKN boots using that pliers from Home Depot and none of the Oetiker clamps ever came loose. You don't seem to understand how the Oetiker clamp work: it has a hook and it stays there. The ear, once clamped down by the pliers, does not come apart, get it?

See the photo of the stock BMW CV Boot...
So much for your false info...

Dude, BTW I know alot of BMW mechanics who own BMW repair shop, they are the ones that told me to use the Home Depot pliers...

The bottom line is: if you don't know what you are talking about, then don't open your mouth...
