Good News/Bad News Update
I got the engine put back together and (hallelujah) it's running MUCH better. I think I finally have the timing right.
But now I have a new problem. The Service Engine Soon light is on, with the following code: INPA: ![]() DIS/GT1: ![]() My best guess right now is that I either have a bad solenoid (not likely because it's been fine up until now), or that I have the timing wheel on the camshaft misaligned slightly. Maybe somebody can answer this question about DIS: I want to activate the solenoid to make sure it's working (and that the DME is communicating with it). But I can't find the function in DIS. I looked at all the function menus/screens and the closest I got was under Function Selection/Entire Vehicle/Drive/DME. I see a listing to activate the VANOS, but there isn't any function assigned to it. In other words, I can select VANOS from the list of actuators, but there isn't anything to click on to actually actuate it. What am I missing?
