I just bought from powerbulbs too. Fast shipping and I got the new Osram d2s nightbreaker unlimited for a great deal. Do not buy cheap aftermarket bulbs. You will be replacing a lot more sets and never during warm weather I bet :p

I figured since I have to remove my bumper cover I may as well replace my halogen bulbs too since I have the x5 coded to turn them on as high beams with my bi-xenons. May as well get the most light I can out of them (without switching to an aftermarket HID set-up).

^Powerbulbs has better prices for the "boutique" bulbs like Osram CBI or Osram Nightbreakers since they have 20% off codes

For regular Philips 85122+ or Osram 66240 bulbs - HIDbulbsRus | Home are best price shipped by far

Anyway, I pulled the front bumper last year to replace the A/C Fan, so I guess I can do it again, but didn't really expect to have to go through all that. And it is cold now, so more risk of broken plastic parts, yippee..
It just a part of the new design philosophy. My cousin CTS Cadillac requires removal of the bumper just to replace a headlight bulb so I told her to have them replace all the bulbs since the major cost was the removal of the bumper and refitting the bumper.

Hmmm, is there a how to for this around? Assuming you need access to a specific device for this?

Do you have headlamp washers?

That's interesting then...I could not remove the headlamp assembly completely out due to the headlamp washers to change the HID bulbs in my 06 with adaptive bi-xenon headlamps.

I could access the AE bulb and the halogen lamps in the inner section (closest to the kidney grills)...but to get to the screws that held the section on were you access the HID bulbs...the headlamp would only slide out to where they hit the headlamp washers....and that was it. No amount of turning and manipulation got them past the washers.

You must be a better man than I.

For example...the 2 torx screws on the bottom (see the 2 bottom arrows in pic below) are really difficult to remove if the light assembly isn't removed from the vehicle...and you can only get to the DS2 (HID) bulb when the 4 torx screws are removed along with the cover that protects the bulb: (images below are from TwinsPoppa's DIY on xoutpost)

You can see the HID bulb location in the pic below with the cover removed

And since the bumper cover needs to come off to get to the DS2 bulbs...you might as well replace both so that you don't have to go back in to do the other side if it goes out no longer after. Plus, two new bulbs will have the same luminosity instead of the one new bulb be brighter than the older bulb.

Not trying to scare you...but again, if you have the headlamp washers...the headlight assembly is not going to come all the way out...which makes it nearly impossible to get to all the screws holding the covers on etc to get to the bulb. You'll need a lot of dexterity & ability to work in tight quarters...possibly blind or use of a mirror, a good light source, and magnetic tools if you plan to change the bulbs without fully removing the headlight assembly from the vehicle.

Remove the bumper cover (piece of cake) and the headlamp assemblies from the vehicle (piece of cake) and changing the bulbs will be "a piece of cake". Trying to change the bulbs with the headlamp assembly half removed from the vehicle...and you have a long tedious & frustrating job ahead of you.
when I did my ds2 hid`s(I don`t have headlamp washers)it only took me 15 min if that ,I didn`t have to remove the whole headlamp assembly, unless my 3.0i is different I don`t know.
I just thought I would chime in.

instead of removing the bumper and headlight I just removed the 1 or 2 10mm bolts holding the intake on my 3.0 and that gave me enough room to remove the torx screws on the headlamp
