so i pulled the trigger on a 3 spoke sport...
now i need to go airbag shopping and i appreciate the input here regarding the airbag recall. Never thought of that. after the winter I will remove the 4 spoke heated wheel and install the 3 spoke sport one i just purchased. its very thick and looks to be in good condition. |

I have no idea how you can verify if the bag has been replaced without the VIN from the vehicle the wheel came from.

The newer 3 spoke wheels are not apart of the recall. The bags are different between the older three spoke with the fork at the bottom and the newer three spoke wheel. See QS's 2nd picture.

That's why I specified "round bag" wheels. The newer wheels don't have the round bag.

FTFY. The newer bags are made by Petri (as far as I can tell), which is a division of Takata. I think some petri bags have recently been recalled in VWs and Audis.
I'm not saying don't do it, just don't think by doing this you'll avoid a recall. I thought about upgrading to the facelift until I found out who made the bag.

Why not just save the original steering wheel and airbag?

so in summary....
.... it's safe to assume that if I buy a round airbag on eBay to fit the nice thick sport steering wheel i recently bought.... the possibility is there that I may be buying a 'recalled airbag' ?I wonder how much a new round airbag is from the dealer... |
