Let's just say it was a no brainier for me. I wasn't actively searching hard for one just bid on it and thought to myself if I win it at this price it will be meant to be.

There is so much to go wrong on these vehicles that not inspecting the vehicle in person or getting a ppi before buying something like that could really come back to bite you in the butt. I have seen some local for around $6,000 running and driving and $8,000 that look to be in really great shape with full documentation. They have really started to come down in price in the last year.

Are you referring to me referencing selling the trans and transfer case? If you were I edited my first post didn't think about that. I was a premium member last year and it must have recently expired. Thanks for the FYI.

Nice, I'm thinking once you get the tc/dshafts figured the balance of the swap will be a breeze. Thanks for putting the conversion link in your sig, good stuff. I love the m6x's but only because they're cheap (& plentiful) to buy in junkyards. Ls would be my choice if I could afford to make it happen.
This is a clever project that should result in the ultimate e53 if you can pull it off cost effectively.

Speedo will work as it goes off of the ABS wheel speed sensors which will remain in their stock locations. I will use BMW 1.4 to get into the gauge cluster and turn the rpm signal from digital to analog and then run a wire from the GM ECU to the back of the cluster to have an operational tach. The factory water temperature sensor will be retro fitted into the cooling system I decide to run. The stock in tank fuel pump and sending unit will be retained so the fuel gauge will work as stock but I will replace the factory bmw fuel filter with a corvette fuel filter/FPR. There is a way to get the MPG reading etc to work with some fine tuning but it will not be my top priority. Wiring for this swap should be very similar to the E39 swaps I have done in the past. I'll document as we go along.

This is a toy vehicle for me so keeping AWD was not necessary and with higher hp goals down the road I didn't want to have to keep replacing driveline components.
