Not sure this will be of any help since I drive an E70 but your explanation sounds remarkably similar to my fault.
Long story short; the ATC500 CONTROL MODULE (it is responsible for controlling the transfer case, among other things) in my vehicle became increasingly unreliable after I discovered it had gotten wet. It ultimately failed completely which resulted in failure of multiple components (EBD, ABS, DSC, 4x4, e-brake, wheel speed sensors... And probably some I can't recall). I was lucky enough to have found a working unit in a wrecked E70 at my local scrap yard. Sent from my GT-I9500 using Tapatalk |

For all interest today replaced abs control module but with different numbers cause bloddy hard to get same. Coded module and steering angle sensor problem gone away.

When I had battery trouble, the triangle light with 4x4 in, and the arrow around, it came on. I did not have any other lights on with it.
You have to turn the steering wheel from lock to lock to clear this light. The car has a steering angle sensor in it that gets lost. You turn the wheel from one limit to the other so the sensor can find itself, this turns the light off. |

Your running voltage is about 0.5v low. You should see 14.4v. |

This can depend on how you measure it. I get 13.8v on the unlocked BC display but 14.3v on the jump terminals with a Fluke. Seems my BC reads about 0.5v low.
