Aluminum Running Boards

I went to the dealer the other day and asked if I could get the aluminum running boards for my 4.8, they said BMW does not make running boards compatible with the 4.8 and that they had just tried to install them on another 4.8 unsuccessfully. Therefore, where do I get the aluminum ones that are in the pictures in the sales pamphlet on the 4.8?

Dealer is flat wrong about that one!! (Big surprise )
I'm sure one of our many on-the-ball members here will provide part #'s for the boards, and the appropriate rear flared wheel arches to match the 4.8...

so you actually have to replace the rear arches as well as add the running boards?

Yes, the running boards come with replacement wheel arches (front and rear), as they are required for a nice flush fit to the running boards. But the arches that come in the kit are not the flared-out version, like you have on the back of your 4.8 (but rather the standard version, as equipped on the 3.0/4.4). However, BMW also sells the flared arches - specifically designed to fit with the running boards - that will match what's on your 4.8 now.
If you do a forum search on running boards and flared wheel arches, I'm sure you'll find a few threads that have the exact part #'s listed...

You don't really need to install the front fender "flares". Here's a pic of my 4.8 with the running boards.

Your stealer has lost it...Tell your parts guy to log into X5 World and learn something about the X. Here is a quick tip for you...purchase the boards but don't buy the wheel arches. The set that's on you X will come in handy. You can take the arch off of the back pieces and mount them to the new ones. All it takes is a lil glue and a exacto knife. Trust me...I did it and I'm sure others have pulled this off as well...............Phil

This is a really interesting idea... One of the things that's been holding me back from getting the flared rear wheel arches on my 4.4 is that I'd need to get an entire 4.8 rear bumper to do it right. But if this trick works, then that would save a lot of cash
