Pioneer Apple Carplay Installed - Antenna Question
Dear All,
I have a 2004 X5 E53 3.0L. Couple of years ago I installed AVIN aftermarket Unit but it died last month. Decided not to go with Chinese models and installed Pioneer Apple Carplay Unit. Overall much happier except for the AM/FM reception. The reception is very poor. Could not get many stations I used to get before with AVIN unit or the standard BMW radio before. Using the Metra Harness 70-9003 to connect to Pioneer wire. Greatly appreciate any help. Thank you. PK |

@Netweaver - Can I ask, what did you get? I'm looking at options, and if I can get a Pioneer that does CarPlay that'd be perfect. However, I'm concerned about installation. The Eonon and Avin come with everything.

Nathan,
I bought Pioneer AppRadio 4 SPH‑DA120. I want to simple solution without DVD etc. You can also get Pioneer NEX Line ( NEX4100-8100 and the new version NEX4200-8200). These are approximate cost. About $450+ for the unit, compatible harness and other Cables. I installed with Best Buy which added about $160. ( The Dash, Wiring harness, Steering wheel control, antenna adapter all from the product line METRA) My experience with Chinese made Android unit was not all that great and decided to give importance to the Quality and function than to the look this time. May be the new versions of Chinese Android units are better but do not want to take another chance. Will post a installed picture later this weekend when I get a chance. Regards, PK |

@Netweaver - Thanks for that info. I had the first AppRadio in my FJ and it was great. However this being a BMW the electronics are a bit more difficult to say the least.
![]() I guess the question is, what did you have before? I have BusinessCD with DSP, and apparently it's the DSP part that is a massive PITA. If I didn't have DSP things would be easy! (IMO, DSP is worthless). I really would like to get Nav and phone in my X5, and the AppRadio would hit all the points I need. Thanks for your info!
