04 4.8is Newbie Underhood Question

Bought the X5 in January from a dealer for a great deal. I've slowly been researching, learning, troubleshooting, cussing, and fixing some of the issues with the SAV. Mechanically it is very sound.

So far I've rebuilt the air suspension system, tinted the windows, and changed the transfer case fluid.

I'm the type person that hates to pay people to do things that I can do or at least without troubleshooting myself and giving it a shot. I work long hours during the week, and being a newly wed, my wife hates to see me even reach for the Bentley manual or think about popping the hood. Therefore, I had an independent shop change the front CV axles for me a few weeks back.

Ever since we go the X5 back, the left headlight has been pointing extremely far left, and the right is more center.

Also, this hose has been bugging the crap out of me. I've checked as many parts diagrams and I can find. Without dropping a skid plate and getting under the vehicle for a while. Can someone help me with where this is supposed to be connected?

It's pictured just in front of the driver side valve cover. Seems to be a rigid, pre-formed, plastic line. Thanks in advance for the help.

That looks like the vent for the front diff. It's supposed to be open.

Thank you sir. If that is the case, Is this the normal location for the vent? Seems a bit visually unappealing and kind of "just put it there for now"

It does looks funny and seems out of place under the hood but this is how it came from factory.

And welcome to the forum!

Yes...it is where it's supposed to be. BTW, there are several of these "vent hoses" around the X5:

#1 on the front final drive (this is the one you see in your engine bay):

#1 on the rear final drive:

#6 on the tranny:

#6 on the gearbox:

Hi don't forget You have adaptive headlights and to active them You have to have the light switch to [A ] .
Also how many miles do You have on her?
I just changed my tranny fluid and filter
changed the park plugs[second time for me [100k on her NGK iridium]and gaped.
I changed out all the headlights to OSRAM clean blue .
I have to say the after the coils change wow what a difference.I gained at least 15% of the performance back.
Also change Your oil every 5k with Castrol titanium 5-30.
These are needy mistress and it will pay off in the short and long run.
Good luck enjoy the ride......................oh they make nice LED angel eye from ZiZa ecm tuning .
Also change your CCV seal and clean that out , and throttle body and clean MAF.

Yeah, we keep it switched to A. I'm wondering if something was knocked around with the steering angle sensor when he installed the CV axles. I may need to reprogram them.

118xxx so far, thanks for the heads up. It's due for an oil change shortly, so I'll have to go ahead and swap those out as well.

Yeah! the angel eyes was one of the first fixes that went on, first part to arrive anyway. Cleaned up the look a lot! Thanks again!
