If you really want to keep the X, it might be a good compromise if you sold the wagon.
Good points, Bcredliner. Further,

a) she's not a bimmerfan-girl anymore.....sounds like she's perhaps saying she's tired of the repair downtimes and money chewed by the X5 thus far.

b) OP is hurt by the money already put down that he is likely not going to see the results of the investment or getting the money back.

In the grand scheme of things, I think the former is what really matters.

If yes, you lose 13-16k, you keep it, you've got a reliable X for years to come. In 5 years from now you'll still get 5000$ for it.

I think sometimes being a man in the house is just what the doctor ordered.
Take decisions together, please your wife, listen to her sometimes cuz we tend to be brainless at times, but losing that much money just cuz, idk, doesn't make sense to me.

I know I'm gonna get flamed; but I've got my fire costume on!
It's paid for, owned so yes, this has been my point to her from the beginning of her talk of selling it.

I guess to me, it's her rig. I like having it quite a bit and think it's a special thing but I name my cars and she does not.

This is what I'm looking at as an option.

You treat her as though her thoughts on the vehicles in the stable don't matter just get ready to lose a lot more than the value on the car. Get ready to lose EVERYTHING! These statements are **cking disgusting!
Yikes! I think the comments could be seen that way but could also be just humorous wsys to solve the dilemma I find myself in and pointing out that both opinions count when shared interest is on the chopping block.

I appreciate the effort to reach out with an opinion and don't think for a moment anyone intended to be disrespectful. Just guys and garage talk. We all, married or not understand the "couch" as the possible cost of a victory sometimes.

Now if I can direct everyone's attention away from that back to this X5.

She hit 100 passing someone today on a fun little 2-lane road up a pass. I think she kind of has feelings for the rig but like getting bucked off a horse she's a bit saddle shy.

Patients and time... I'm optomistic.

Funniest line I've read in weeks. Just as a phrase not what it was in context.

I don't know that having service history will get you more money out of the car, but it will definitely make it easier to sell if you advertise that you've reconditioned the vehicle and provide a full list upon request.

I appreciate the info. Thanks.

I'm ok spending on the X because I love that she has it. I love knowing my gal is rolling in a fun well-sorted out driving machine. I know it's crap to maintain sometimes and it has its flaws of design in places and that like the ark of the covenant, you're not allowed to look directly at some parts less you break them (plastic connectors) but I love seeing her delight when she passes, merges or dodges potholes.

I like what you said. All but that insanity at the end to sell the wagon. WTF man! LoL NEVER!!!

To everyone else, I should finish by saying wow. Thanks for the supportive, funny and some borderline masochistic statements either made in jest, logical financial advice or a 20th century view of reality. Thanks. It was good to hear.

I'm going to give her a few months to think about it. I just ordered some new headlights, it'd be stupid to sell it before they're installed and tested right?

It's a great truck and yes, it's a money pit with no overall benefit if sold and if she doesn't see the joy of driving it, why keep her in it. If I can help her fall back in love with it that would be great. If not, she gets what she feels best in. Perhaps we'll be a 3 car family again.

Meanwhile I won't be posting an ad with an insane price 'cause you guys will blast the ad in a thread titled "look at this idiot!" and I'd have to raise my hand and say it was me. I'm not ready for that yet.

Fingers crossed.

Humor, the most difficult thing to type.

This is kind of how I see it. I'll push to keep it but it's just money at the end of the day and not a ton.

New Spyder headlights :

There's no way she'll want to sell it now, right?

They don't use the xenon ballast/bulbs that are stock so maybe I'll retrofit these Spyders when I need another project.

She will if you try to make her drive at night.

Yeah, you have to. They're downright dangerous at night, the optics are so poor (and installed UPSIDE DOWN most of the time) - see my exploits here.
