Check out this post

https://xoutpost.com/1127249-post1101.html

This weekend I am planning to upgrade my Eonon GA6166 Android 5.0 with puny and pathetic 1GB RAM to a Android 6.0 board with 4GB RAM and 32GB Flash

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/WITS...814725689.html

I have learned a lot from the xda forum regarding the capability and upgrade flexibility of these popular units.

One of the key things I learned is that Eonon and many other so-called "brands" being sold are not the actual manufacturer. Eonon and Seicane are just resellers. The actual manufacturer name is coded in the "About Device" screen after the series name of something like MTC_

My GA6166 unit shows: MTCD_KBT_V2.42_1

The manufacturer is "KBT" and their firmware version is 2.42

Crowz,

I'm thinking about the 9 inch 7.1 Seicane unit. Do you have this one? Know anything about it?

This is interesting, all of these head units I am comparing seem to be designed and manufactured by the same company or companies in China. It seems many of them use the same password to access the factory settings and you can unlock even more and root your OS just like you would your Android phone if you so choose.

Careful on that one. I don't think it has 8 cores. These things are not fun to use with 2 or 4 cores.

Mines the 7" screen I think. The 9 inch ones are the tablet models I believe. No experience with them sorry.

The link to mine is in my radio howto in my signature.

Hi all -
back here after a *long* absence, but nothing much spectacular happened to my '06 4.8iS in that time, until I had my radio installed....

The radio is great - Eonon GA6166 with Android Lolipop, my first niggles were that it doesn't read CD Track data from original CDs, and the speed of handling Google Maps is way slow, when tethered to my BB on a 4G network data connection.

With CDs, which I've had a bit of a renaissance with lately - all I get is 'Track 1... Track 2... ' including when you swipe the CD 'Disc' screen to the left - did you guys try that? ) - I tried to find any App that would read the disc data, but not many Android devices have built-in CD players, so stuff like VLC was not helpful either. The discs go in the head unit, so it's nothing to do with wiring/ connections... any ideas???

The worst part of the whole deal however was the installation. I'm in Abu Dhabi and the industrial area where all the car workshops are (they are only allowed in one kind of ghetto area) only had one reputed car radio workshop. The guy spent five hours wiring up my Plug 'n' Play radio, and ended up severing the Sub connections and parking sensors. Basically he cut the huge square connector off the amp, brought it near the battery compartment and doubled a bunch of wires back to each of the mid-range speakers, so now only those ones work.

My questions to you, my esteemed peers, are:
Is it actually fully P&P, or did he have to go and cut all the wires to make the connections fit under the spare wheel??;
How do I get my Sub to work again - run a phono cable to it from the back of the unit? How can it be powered??
The radio detects when the gearshift goes into reverse - did he steal this connection from the parking sensor circuit behind the Climate box, or is there another way the radio detects the gearshift position??

Any help gratefully received - photos will be added when I've backed up my mobile

Two things come to mind as questions. Did your X5 have DSP and did it have Navigation? If yes, there would be a harness from the Eonon to the rear compartment.

There are several members who have just completed their installs with Seicane units and have been different depending on the options that were fitted from the factory. I have to say though from reading your post that your installer may have made some pretty big mistakes. Cutting wires is never a good thing and should not have occurred. You need to get back to the original wiring before you can properly install the aftermarket system.

You will also need a ibus app to be able to access you mid functions like time settings and trip computer. Here is a link for you to browse, over 100 pages but should give you an idea of what needs to be done with different factory options.

Update: I successfully upgraded my Eonon GA6166 from PX3 processor and 1GB Ram (which was pathetically slow performing on cold boot and when running multiple apps, especially if one is a map app), to the PX5 processor with 4GB RAM.

The PX5 Board or as the technical folks call them "SoM" pops right in with slight modification removal of the center mounting lug and securing at the other two screw positions. De-soldering of the center mounting lug is necessary to seat the new PX5 board properly. Don't ask me how I know!

This is the PX5 board with an additional heatsink which makes it a little thicker

So, one goes from using about 80% of your available RAM in the original GA6166 configuration to using maybe 25% of your available RAM with the PX5 upgrade. Blazing speed fast, like adding twin turbos to our 4.4i E53. LOL

Of course you will no longer have any warranty coverage from Eonon once you open the case and perform the mod.

Here is the place I bought my PX5 board

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/WITS...814725689.html

I am enjoying blazing speed as compared to the 1GB unit and can run multiple mapping apps (Weather and navigation) as well as Spotify and the IBUS app without slow performance and cold boot up is now 45 seconds or so.

Yup - one fella was rewiring the trunk while the other was chasing the harness through the car.

OB, I was devastated when I came back to the workshop after a couple of hours (waiting for the phone call) when I saw the original amp connector chopped off and wads of thick OFC speaker cable grafted into the trunk lining. I'm still confused about the purpose of the duplicate connectors from the Fakra cable, and which part should connect where - I'm pretty good for this normally but have been under stress lately and wanted the guys to do the job without learning the whole thing myself. (D'oh!!) - anyway, it's like he went through the rear compartment with a weed wacker - I'm just uploading the photos now, if you can bear to look... I want it all put back!!

I was wondering how to do that - how to stop the dash time display from losing track completely with reality - I'm much obliged for the advice!

Here is a good link for installing the ibus app. My friend runs a pretty tight server so if you get blocked because your out of the country let us know, he can release your IP to allow access.
