I think you are going to have to find someone that went down this path of processing the block to determine if the scotch brite pad method will work. I would be a little skeptical but if there is a shop that is doing this and producing great results then it may very well be feasible.

masangya E53 is on a distinguished road
what about just re ringing it w/out messing w/ the alusil cylinder walls. but then if the rings don't seat. oil consumption, compression?

........smeared cylinder/piston aluminum, cracked rings/pistons, bent/snapped con-rods, ventilated block. It could turn the motor into a boat anchor.
