aux input help grrrrrrrrrrrrr

I have a 2002 that was produced on 01-2002.
I want to add the aux input ,blue tooth or input for ipod/iphone.
I want to keep the nav and the cd-changer.
i just can not believe it can't happen.
What is the serial port in the back driver side for?
All i want to do is play music for a device and pair my phones.

I just bought my son a2002x5 with nab and changer and would like to know how to add either an input plug or lume tooth. Previous owner had a cassette with a microphone for Bluetooth but said it didn't work well because the connector was behind the nav

There is an OE BMW aux retrofit kit. You'll have to pull out your head unit and see if there is an empty wiring connector in your radios harness (not on the back of the head unit). There is a kit for nav equipped vehicles and non nav vehicles, make sure you get the right one.

+1 on pulling the display and looking behind it for the empty connector. The caveat is, the empty connector is not simply hanging free, it is wrapped up in the gauze that the wires are wrapped with. You might see the lump, but there is a wire harness that you can unroll the black fabric tape to expose the connector. There is a pigtail on the part (female aux connector) that is about 24 inches long so that you can route the wire to a location that's inside of the glove box and mount the aux port.

When the aux port is installed, the MODE button on the radio will present AUX as one of the inputs. Successive presses of the MODE button will roll around the input choices of AM, FM, CD, and AUX. The port works good, just use any aux cable to plug into your headphone jack on your phone, and the other end into the aux port that you just installed into your car.

I have an '05, with the MK4 Nav System. There are two aux ports that can be plugged in, one has a micro-mini 2-pin connector, the other has a mini. Except for the connectors being different sizes, the ports are identical. The nav display will see the new aux port as soon as it is connected.The cable is on eBay, and comes from a dealership out of San Francisco. I recall the cost to be $40-ish.

Saw this thing on amazon called Avantek Bluetooth. You plug it in your 12 volt, blue tooth or wire your phone to it and it transmits to your fm receiver. Anyone ever try any of these?


Best thing about it , if it works is you do not have to remove your head unit

Here's a complete DIY guide to installing the kit. The navigation version will vary very slightly. It sounds like your radio may be too old, you need a radio with date of 10/2002 or newer.

I just installed this in to my 03 non-nav.

Works pretty well, could be better but for under $100 and to have aux usb and Bluetooth I am happy.

I had just the AUX (ebay <$10) but it did not work my phone if it was charging, kind of strange.
