Anyone use an OBD GPS tracking device?
Anyone use one or know if it will cause problems? I trust him but want to protect. I can always just place a tracking device butmtheynare twice the price and require a subscription. Thanks in advance. Te one im thinking about is VYNCS premium. Don't want to mess up the system.

I have Metro Miles as my insurance company for my fleet of cars. They provided me with an OBD II GPS tracking device for all my OBD II vehicles that I have registered with them. The OBD II track the number of miles that the cars are driven and the rate for the cars varies from 2.8 cent per miles to 5.5 cents per miles. Average bill per car is about $20.00+ per months. The GPS also provide the location of the car on a map. I'm sure they can track how fast the car is being driven, but that piece of data isn't available to me.
There are no monthly fee for the GPS other than the monthly insurance fee for each car. The device was also free. Base on the Metro insurance rate for my fleet of cars I went from $1800 a year to just $600 per year. My previous insurance company was State Farm. All my vehicles are used for pleasure only, no daily commute. If you drive under 10,000 miles per year per vehicle the paid by mileage may be a better deal for you instead of the regular auto insurance through a regular insurance company. Rates includes Liabilty, collision and comprehension.

Thanks. So it seems as though this tracker won't mess with the electrical system and ECM in th e x5? I have Allstate and don't want them knowing my driving habits
. Like I said, the main purpose of this tracker is to know my son isn't driving like a lunatic. Franky, at 17 I had a. 71 Cuda and did drive like a lunatic but I was lucky. No accidents. I also didnt have cell phone technology then to distract me. I just want to make sure he isn't speeding where he shouldn't and the hard breaking measurement is a sure tip,off of lack of attention. A 4800 pound 4.4 is a tank without a cannon and I want everyone alive. Yeah I'm overprotective but I'm a dad and that's what we do. I appreciate the input and all the help in the other noob posts I have made. Have a happy holiday season to all..

Cost is based on mileage that you drive and the type of car you drive. The X is the lowest in terms of monthly usage charge and mileage charge. I think it will be worth checking out Metro for your remaining 3 vehicles. You might be pleasantly surprised by the saving. I went from Allstate to State Farm after I got a quote from State Farm and found out how much more All State was ripping me off. Before I switched to Metro Miles I asked State Farm if I could get a better deal with the limited miles that I drive, they told me that I was already getting the Best Deal. I signed up for Metra and when the insurance period started I informed State Farm that I was canceling my insurance policies.
They tried to convince me not to cancel by stating that my homeowner insurance will go up. I asked them to give me a revise homeowner insurance policy for the two houses without car insurance that I have insured with them and if it goes up drastically I will look at other insurance companies for the two houses. Still waiting on their quote.

A friend of mine used it to track his teenagers kids. At any given moment, he knows where the car is.
The device itself is not expensive but he pays about ? $25/month for monitoring fees. I personally don't like to do this, in a way, it is invasion of the kids' privacy, but OTOH I understand why some parents do it. I am OK either way. Another $300/year out of the window if you go this way. BTW, this is a useful tool if the car is stolen, however, most thieves these days are smart, once they steal the car, they make sure they remove the "Lo Jack" device as some of them are mounted in the engine compartment or even underneath the car.
