Nice to see you on here as well buddy...picking up an X5 for a winter driver/daily while I put the touring under the knife.

Rarely see Estoril Blue up here in these parts. One of the dealers I worked for had an Imola Red one sitting in the corner of their lot and they refused to sell it for some reason....

My indy called me back with the once over report. Upper timing cover seals, driver front control arms and power steering leak from reservoir. They are going to have a look at the guides while doing the timing cover gaskets. Also having them do trans fluid flush and filter change. I just told them to knock it all out since we are close to Christmas and it's so cold. I am going to get HVAC for the garage first thing next year!

Not a bad report if you ask me, sounds pretty typical. Gasket leak, front arms, PS leak on 100k+ vehicle. If you thought it was a nice ride prior, it'll be amazing once you get it back!

Exactly. I had budgeted $1500 for repairs. It will be a little more but as you said, should be a very nice ride.

I do need to replace the HU/MID and fix the non telescoping wheel issue. But I think swapping out the seat controls/memory module might fix the latter as none of the memory functions work, one seat function doesn't work and I was told this can often be related to the controls.

Drats, timing chain guides starting to break at the mounting point so having them replaced as well. At least it should be bullet proof for the next 100k miles.

Please do not take this the wrong way, But anyone that buys an X5E53 with V8 engine that has over 90K miles should understand that timing guide replacement is just a given. Even if your guides were not broken but showed some wear on the guides I would be changing them for proper piece of mind. Do the cooling system at the same time and you should be good for the next 100K miles.

I changed out my seat module and this cured my Power telescoping function. Its highly unlikely that the steering column motors are fried/non working. My X5 seats and memory all worked fine. it was just the power steering column that was not working and the new seat module cured this.

At least you caught it early before disaster. Would you mind sharing how much the shop is charging to do the TCG replacement? I'm sure i'll need to do it at some point in the future. I have about 85k on the motor and I've already started a savings fund for it haha.

Interesting how your X5's guides started falling apart around 110k miles, my X5 made it to 213k before they failed really obviously. Though who knows how long they were wearing down before they decided to fail completely.

No offense taken. I had just hoped they would have been fine. Before I sold my last E38, they did the gaskets at 137k and the guides were perfect.

He said they probably could have lasted a while but why risk it when they already had the covers off. It was going to be $1k for all the gaskets and is about $3k with guides, chains, new tensioner, all associated parts and labor. Not a job I would have wanted to do myself. And it would have been a crying shame had they done the gaskets and then the guides let go. But if they haven't done the other items, I may tell them to wait and knock them out myself to save a little.
