I believe both levelers worked on startup. Which is why I was hoping for the best but the driver side will not adjust with the adjustment knob in the bay anymore. I will double check that they are working when I get home from work.

Check to see if just the ball popped out of the socket. remove the headlight and the xenon bulb and you should be able to see. Happened to me earlier this year and I just popped it back in and I was good to go.

I just pulled the light and both ball ends were out the socket. When I try to put them back in, they just pull right back out. I will try and bake them open and put zip ties around the sockets which should fix them right up for now.

I've baked a dozen or more lights in my days and I cannot get these open no matter what which is a huge bummer because OEM replacements are so pricey. I have had them in for 30 minutes at 220 and I can't get any of it to pry open. Which is odd because it looks and feels like butyl seal. My tool I use even pushed through the back side of the plastic housing.
My E38 took 5 minutes and my E39's only took 15. Even my Volvo only took 10-15 min. Very annoying. |

Looks like 2003 is a no bake. Not sure if I should take my chances on a 2001-02 used from eBay for $200'ish or go with the aftermarket OE replacements on eBay for $380'ish each.
Edit: Went ahead and bought this since I would rather try new aftermarket over risking a used one. I have had good luck with this type on my old E39/E34. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Replacement...53.m2749.l2649 Last edited by RVAE34; 03-06-2018 at 11:05 PM. |

Sometime in 2002, around June I think, the lights were permanently sealed. Baking does not release the 'glue'. They can be opened but it takes a long time. I've done one and would never do it again. I modified the OE lights.

those ebay ones look great. I replaced the lenses on my 99 528 with smoked turn signals and orange bulbs and it really cleaned up the look of them.
I wish I could do it to my 06. Unfortunatley the only resolution is $800 for new halogens (which suck anyway), spend $2400 for Xenons, or get some decently looking ebay ones for $450 and throw LEDs in them. The hardest part is finding ones that dont look riced out to shit.

Pop it back into the sockets, it might feel like it can easily pop back out however they are secure, Mine did the same thing and hasn't come out since. Just try it and see if it works as it did for me.
