E53 wiring diagram location...

Good day all!!

As some of you may know, I'm finishing up the rebuild on my X5 motor and since that is done, more or less, I need to figure out this ECAS (Electrically Controlled Air Suspension)... I have INPA all ready to go, but I'm waiting on the cable... Being bored and hate that I can't drive the 5, I did some searching...

I found the relay! Yay! Second light green from the front above the sub in the rear panel... It is a grounding relay... I don't have constant power to the other wire and the fuse panel says the Air Suspension uses 79 (7.5a) and 87 (30a)... Both of those locations only have one prong...

Here is the confusing part... The relay is connected to ground (brown wire)... 12v is at pin 87 at the relay... When energized, that 12v goes to pin 30 then to ground... Now, those that understand this stuff, the 12V being grounded by the relay needs to pass through the motor, motors positive side wire, connector (that is connected), and fuse block first for the circuit to work...

It is almost like this is working backwards or in circles... Or whatever... I would love to get my hands on the complete wiring schematics for the vehicle... It may shed some light (12V) on what I'm doing...

Oh, I did search... For the past eight days... I must not be using the correct search terms...

Thanks!!!

Cheers all!!

Cross-posting from another thread - for the sake of "completeness".

This site will tell you where any electrical component is located: -

WDS BMW Wiring Diagram System - English

You'll need Java and Adobe SVG viewer but it's an amazing resource, with full component descriptions, locations and full circuit diagrams!

Good day!!

Thanks so much for the amazing wiring diagram site!! It allowed me to manually (the really hard way) to air up my suspension... Now I'm able to drive it!! WHOOO HOOO!! But, the bad part is I get a trans failsafe because my dash gear selection and the LED on the shifter console don't match... Well.... Kinda.... Park and Reverse match and I can do that all day with no Transmission Failsafe Programming (TFP)... As soon as I put it in Neutral or thru Neutral into Drive, I get TFP... So, I am guessing the selection controls under the shifter boot are working as it should... Where is the other control that tells the dash what gear I'm in... Additionally, If I go THRU Neutral quickly, the dash will stay on P and the car will act like it is in Neutral with no Drive gear activated in the trans... And it will stay like that until I put it into Neutral, at which time I get my TFP...

Thoughts!?

As always, yous guys are the best!! Thanks!!!

Cheers!!!

Good day all!!!

I apologize for bringing up an old thread of mine, but I can not get everything to be happy with the site above... I've tried all I can on three different systems ranging from windows XP up to WIN8... There is always one obstacle I can't get past... Any other sites I can get the wiring diagram for my BMW's? Specifically the clutch and cruise circuits for the Manual trans 3.0L X5...

Thanks all!!!

Cheers!!

The WDS program is problematic because it requires an older version of java (not java script) and SVG. Both programs have very serious security flaws and are blocked by many systems.

The best solution is to download the complete wds program from a torrent and install it on an old dedicated laptop running XP without antivirus software. Of course, it should never be allowed internet access.

The bmwtech.ru WDS works fine with the very latest version of Java, as long as you manually create a site except for bmwtech.ru in the Java control panel. I run it on Win7Pro, IE11 with Java v8.0b121 - no issues.

The SVG plugin may have security issues but there is a very low chance of exploitation - you have to just take a punt on that!

BUT - I would jump at the chance to have a self contained copy - I worry the bmwtech.ru web site might disappear. Haven't found a torrent for it - got any details?

(BTW, a torrent client is probably a bigger security risk that the SVG plugin ).

See images for Java settings required to run WDS...

You change these settings are you own risk - and I recommend only setting them this way to access the WDS - change them back when you are done. And if you don't, well, Sun will change them on you with the next update anyway!

Your solution does work. It scares me to allow the security vulnerability on a machine that I use for personal stuff. But I'm extra security conscious. Or paranoid.

It's only a real vulnerability if you practice poor internet behaviour. Vulnerabilities like this aren't an open door - but if the hacker knocks and you open the door....

But I hear ya - that's why I only user these settings when on the WDS.

Good day!

This is super great info! I would also love to have a dedicated copy! I already have a computer dedicated to just BMW programming! I'm going to start looking for one today! And try the setting suggested by wpoll until I find one!

Thanks! As always, the knowledge base is why I love this forum!

Cheers!
