I think his homebase is in TX. if you got an email or a number, i can relay it to him, you talk to him directly.

I am going to get him to DC area within next month or two, so if you know somebody who could benefit from it, let me know, i will get them in touch.

He's got the AGA tool, so it's 1500$ for the labor and 250-300$ for the parts (timing cover gasket, valve cover gasket, intake manifold gasket set, coolant, actuator seal set etc)....
Given no additional work required besides this, the price is between 1750-2000$.
I might just jump on this offer and fix them. He said he needs the car for 4-5 days..
So if anyone is interested, let me know and I'll hook you up.
Honestly, this is a costly job, but my mechanic's price makes me feel good while looking at what the dealer or other independent shops charge for this.

Well, that's that. Have a good one!
Are You experiencing smoke ? If not You might want to chill out, I think bmw caught the problem and replaced them on 05,06 , so if it's not broken don't fix it.

I don't believe that is true. The N62 is known to smoke eventually from failed seals in nearly every installation across all years and models. But like nikasil in the M60, it's not a foregone conclusion. My brother had a 1995 E38 that never had a problem with the motor. He sold it 2 years ago with over 150k on it. I'm kinda hoping my N62 will be the exception like his M60.

If you read the first post it says right there that my car has this problem.
It's a June 2006 car, and yes got plenty of blue smoke when idling and driving off, got a bit worse over the last 2 years and obviously burns oil because of that.
I tried heavier oil and that hasn't helped much.
Replaced CCV membranes as well, problem still there. I might have to check those things again cuz I replaced them almost 60k miles ago.
But yeah I've got better things to do with 2000$ than do preventive maintenance on the stem seals they are bad 100%. The new seal design is better, so once changed hopefully no more dealing with the issue anymore.

Yup. My friend said he knows a BMW tech that seems to do the valve stems seals on some n62 at least once a month guaranteed. He said they all fail. Some sooner than others.

I'd also appreciate the contact info via PM. Especially if he is based in TX. Mine very rarely smokes now due to using 10w50 and Lucas oil additive (stuff is THICK) with every oil change. It does however still go through oil obviously. I just added a quart actually yesterday.
