The rough idle can be an indication of vacuum leak. Sometimes you can find a vacuum leak by spraying carb cleaner, starter fluid or propane where vacuum leaks could be present. The idle will change if you find one. I don't have much faith in that method. I made a smoke tester based on watching various youtube videos of what others have done. If there is a vacuum leak a smoke test will find it.

The white smoke is concerning. Does it smell like oil smoke or the sweet smell of coolant? Any indication of coolant in the oil?

Thanks for your reply. I had it smoked tested and its leaking from the intake.

Today I should receive my ccv from carpartswholesale of Ebay. It took them a long time to ship it to me but, as I said, I should received it today. After I replace the ccv and intake gaskets I'll post the results.

Ok, yesterday my parts came in and I spent the day putting them on. I completely removed the intake (taking great care) so I could replace the ccv with better ease. After replacing the ccv, ccv gasket and intake gaskets I noticed the oil separator hose was splitted. Thi was my oil problem, or one of them). PITA, but I replaced the hose and replaced the other hose too, again PITA. Put it all back together and cleared the codes. Started the car, it ran rough. Went for a test drive around the block and the CEL came on immediately and start flashing. I felt so dejected, I really needed a shoulder to cry on. All the time and money I have put in this car and it's running worse than it did before I started.

This morning I check the codes; Function 21, 9c activate cylinder 7, 73 hot film air mass (forgot to plug in the MAF), 36 misfiring several, 38 misfiring cylinder 7. So I decided to check out cylinder 7. I replaced spark plug cord and spray electrical cleaner on the injector connectors and on the spark plug connectors. Put it all back together and took it for a test drive. At startup it ran fine (good start), ran great on the 2.5 miles test drive and no check engine light yet.

I'll drive it for a while and check back in if the problem has been fixed. I feeling much better today

Leaving off the MAF plug connection messed you up and generated a number of codes. I knew that your head gasket could not be leaking but that the oil leak is somewhere in hoses that breath air and oil and look you found it. You should be marveling in a sense of accomplishment. Good job and enjoy.

Nice work. Should give you an excellent sense of accomplishment.

Oh, and never take it to that first shop again. And help someone else out by leaving a less than stellar google and yelp review of them and their mis-diagnosis. They really should reimburse you for whatever they charged you. Wasted your time.

Ok, I only have 1 code now it's function 21 bank 1. The leaks and replacing the ccv caused the other codes. I have tried to time the truck several times and wondering if it's a timing problem. Is there anyone in the Sacramento area who can help me correctly time my truck? I have the timing tools and will do most of the work I just need the correct guidance. I can be reached at 661-910-5467.

Thanks in advance
