I went and measured the room between top of my lid and the spare tire and was 1 inch or less. I will see if there is any adjustments somewhere but so far it doesn't look like mine is compatible with the cover.

I think option would only work with a "space saver" spare wheel and not with a full-size spare.

I have a full 20" spare back there.. so, um, yeah, no cover here.. although that cover does look like it comes in handy.

What spare are you running? I am wanting to get a better spare solution in my X5 with 20" Style 87. What is your spare wheel style and tire size that fits in the rear tub?

It would really be helpful if there were model/model year/build date info. Some items like what's being discussed may or may not be available based on time of production or how the vehicle is optioned...and when one says they have it...but there's no model/model year info or explanation of options or other pertinent info (full size spare or compact spare...EHC I or ECH II self leveling suspension or regular suspension etc??)...it leaves a big question mark in the thread (now) and in the future if someone found it while searching.

The part database indicates that the cover #17 comes when optioned with S926a spare wheel (which is the full size spare). So...the members that have the cover...what spare do you have...and what model/model year do you have or do you or don't you have self leveling suspension?

If one does not have any model/model year/build date info in a signature or listed...please help the forum by adding the info or updating the thread so that it is clear as to which model/model year had the part in question.

I have an 04 4.8iS. In the picture you have there. Mine has the bottom one. Mine was missing the spare tire removal assist harness thing. I bought one and it does not fit with that cover. The middle cover shown in the pic, I believe has the shape that allows the handle of spare tire assist to fit.
So right now, mine is out of the vehicle due to that.

I believe my spare is a skinny 19" like the one someone posted earlier.

Thanks for giving your vehicle info. It helps paint a clearer picture of why some may have #7 & #17...and why some do not.

I wonder how many 4.8is e53 X5s actually came with a full size spare? I thought they got the 19" compact spare...which could easily accommodate #7 & #17 in the diagram...and as you mentioned...the handle/strap set-up to remove the full size spare isn't necessary if you have the compact/emergency 19" spare.

Just hopped on realoem to look.
The spare is a 19x5 emergency wheel. Light alloy.

Will edit.
I gotta say tho. With the air compressor and all, I don't really see how a full size spare would fit with any cover at all below the carpeted wooden floor or pullout floor.

I bought the spare removal kit, mainly for the woman.
She's got short arms as is, although I seriously doubt she'll ever change a wheel herself.

I imagine the full size spare was an option back in the day, and most probably opted not to.
