Advice needed! Le Mans Blue 4.8is

Hey everyone. Decided to post here since the bimmer forums aren’t very E53 concentrated. I have a gorgeous 2006 4.8is in Le Mans with cream interior. Loaded with options and only 93k miles.

I just finished a thorough refresh of the entire suspension and many other maintenance items.
Last week it was hit in the rear while parked and sustained some significant damage to the rear and the axle/wheel well. Insurance has made me a decent offer for declaring it a total loss. Do I buy it back salvage and attempt to part it out? Would it be worth the hassle?

Thanks for the input.

That's so sad. It depends if you have the time and space to deal with parting a car out.

Sorry to hear about the rear end. And thankfully you weren't in the car during the accident. A part out can be worth it and can make more money than the insurance payout. But you will need to see how much the buy back will be, add the amount of time for the part out, storage, etc.

Usually there is significant opportunity for profit if you can DIY but it is not easy and takes a lot longer than you might expect. If you don't tear it down as far as you want to go, bear in mind that when someone wants a part you have to be able to do the disassembly quickly plus pack and ship. I think it is one of those things that most owners do once and never again. Since labor is such a big portion of repairs, if you can do the repair yourself, I think that is a much better way to go with a 4.8.

Crowz will become famous soon enough
I would think the 4.8 motor would bring decent money but again like mentioned it would really be a matter of how much the buy back would cost you.

The quickest way to make your money would be to fix the damage and then sell it. Even with a salvage title, a clean 4.8is with low miles should fetch some good money.

Parting out is only the better option if you have the time and space to do it. It takes quite a bit longer to make your money with a part-out.

As a person that have bought my share of high end and exotic cars, you can make a small fortune in buying cars, The trick is you start with a LARGE fortune.

Not sure I agree. These aren't that high anymore. So unless his buy back is hella cheap. He might not make out repairing it and selling.
Would probably make more partial by it out, IMO.
