Hadn't run across that one. I'd love to know how he got the side bolts holding the fan off. I couldn't see an easy way to get it off without taking other stuff out. Thanks for the link. I'll definitely look at it when I decide to tackle it again. In the mean time I need to look at wiring diagrams since the only fault other than the passenger seat butt sensor not working is this one code for driver's side, stage I. I'm hoping it may be something else I have to change that's easier to get to and cheaper.

Maybe stage 1 refers to seat belts? I definitely would into things further before replacing the module.

Are you getting the airbag light on the cluster or when you scan for fault codes?

According to the manual there are two stages of air bag deployment depending on the force of the collision. Lower speed, stage 1, the air bag deploys with less force. Stage II, higher speed, bags deploy at full force.

I get an air bag light on the cluster. When I scan that is the code it gives me. I clear it and that lasts for awhile, then it comes back. Interesting thing is that when I clear it after each of about five occurrences (that's a guess, I haven't counted) it seems to go away for a month or more. Could be a coincidence, but I am going to start logging it.

There are two sets of explosives in the front air bags so they can deploy softer or harder. From the name I think above estimate is likely correct.

Well that is two strikes against crash sensor then and a redder arrow pointed toward a clock spring problem.

I would try diagnosing the stage I fault before replacing the ABG module.

How many miles do you have?

Does it happen after turning the steering wheel to its locks?

Try clearing the code, and turning lock to lock 5-10 times and see if the code reappears. If so, you likely have a bad clockspring. Relatively inexpensive part, and about 30 minutes to replace.

I had a random one time clock spring error. Reset code and it's been fine for months since.

I have 225,000 miles. I'll give the lock to lock test a try and see what happens.
