				Eonon Android 7.1 Radio Replacement

So I did anyway. I was going to post a new thread, but there are already too many threads out there on audio swaps. I have begun to install my head unit as noted above. I'll post the specs after awhile, but they are easiest enough to find online. The frames for the audio unit are different depending on year, transmission, whether or not the system has DSP or NAV. My system is a 2003 5 speed with the business CD, no NAV. The frame is part of the dash and must be cut out. Other frames noted here can be unscrewed and extracted. Good for them. I realize just now that this forum needs dummied down resolution pics. so I will post those after I shrink the photos. What a pain. So far here is what I think. To remove the plastic frame, do not screw around. I tried several types of dremels: Battery, Electric, Air and finally I said screw it and used a BFSawZall and was able to remove the frame in seconds. Again I apologize, I will have to go and shrink the photos before I can show them to you. I will describe the wiring hook-up soon. I do not intend to install cameras. Easier to just share my google drive link that to waste time changing the resolution of the pics. Will, I hope, finish the install this weekend. https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...NS?usp=sharing |

Dr Rick, thanks for sharing. What most people have questions on is the DSP system on some X5 vehicles and how the different android systems integrate into the factory DSP. You said your X5 is a 2003 has the business CD so no navigation but did you have DSP? The top right button on you old mid would have DSP next to audio. (image below) Another question that gets asked is what models need the non nav cage cut out and which can be unbolted. We now can assume that 2003 and earlier needs to be cut. I will be doing my install next month and I have a 2004 so we can update that MY then. Also, it would be helpful if you give your specific Eonon model number for reference later down the road as people install that same model.

Excellent. Should be a straight forward upgrade. Looking forward to your finished install and review.

It took me a good hour to figure out which harness to use. There are a possibility of 6 https://xoutpost.com/attachment.php?...1&d=1544197927 This shows the original harness (in light blue) and the harness I chose for this installation. The difficulty is that there are a minimum of contact points in the new harness compared with the old, so I was't sure. Turns out that new unit does not need these contacts. https://xoutpost.com/attachment.php?...1&d=1544197950 Bench look https://xoutpost.com/attachment.php?...1&d=1544197394 Wiring diagram https://xoutpost.com/attachment.php?...1&d=1544197416 The new unit is upside down with the connections made ready to go into the dash. https://xoutpost.com/attachment.php?...1&d=1544197524 New harness connection on side view. https://xoutpost.com/attachment.php?...1&d=1544197605 Preliminary in dash view for trial run before mounting https://xoutpost.com/attachment.php?...1&d=1544197698 Initial view of the Head unit fired up https://xoutpost.com/attachment.php?...1&d=1544197787 I will finish the installation this weekend. Nice! Looks like you're in the homestretch... Did you get the CAN bus adapter or iBus adapter? Steering wheel buttons, BC settings etc...?

My guess is yes, both. It is my understanding the CAN bus adapter will allow steering wheel controls and give a reverse signal (for backup cam if installed) and the IBus interface will allow you to reset the BC computer (clock, avg speed, avg mpg, etc). Do your steering wheel buttons do anything now?

This Eonon unit comes with the CANbus decoder and as stated its needed for the steering wheel controls to work. The I-Bus adapter is available from third parties and along with the I-Bus android app gives you access to function lost by removing the MID unit, i.e. resetting the time/date, mpg readings etc. The I-Bus app can do lots more also, as I'm sure you're aware. *edit* oops - I'm just repeating what OB said - let's just say OB is correct!
