You do know if you switch it with the one in your car you're gonna get the tamper dot.

On a headlight switch? It didn't work that way on the E39 when I did mine and they're the same bus. I could see an LCM swap causing that since the mileage is stored there. But the switch should be a direct swap with zero issues.

It def did that on my E46.
Haven't fixed it yet, but i have to code the LCM and have the VINs match.

Thats the LCM and it makes sense. Not the switch the OP is talking about.

As in the headlight switch itself. The one by the driver's door on the dash with the fog button. The LCM should not care if that switch is changed. Now if you change the LCM, yep you'll get the tamper dot.

I didn't know you can just switch the cover.
So if you switch to a cover with the rear fogs and drop in rear bulbs. And code the LCM to activate them. I could have rear fogs?

I don't think you have to code the LCM. You need the switch and a wire from the LCM to the rear panel if I recall the reads.

E46 and E53 are 2 different LCM's. You will not get a tamper dot by changing the faceplate or switch on either one.

On the E53 rear fog light retrofit you need to wire a single wire from the switch to the LCM and in the rear you need to add wiring to the inner tail lights in the tailgate. On mine I added the trailer module and wired from pin 3 on it. This will not require and coding but if you want to go without the trailer module, you can wire to pins 10 and 12 on that TCM connector but will need to code the fog lights in NCS Expert.

Here is a link to the thread I followed when I did my retrofit. I came in on page 22.

VIN and mileage need to match. You need BMW Scanner 1.4. If you have the program and dongle, I can help you with that.

If you have a sedan E46 the rear fogs are already wired, you just need to add the euro faceplate to your LCM. I did code my E46 for both rear fogs, while 1 fog lit is correct, it always looks like there is a wiring problem so I just fire both.

The light switch is just a switch on the e53. Not a module. On the e46 the light switch is the lcm I believe.
