Rear wiper upgrade- anyone done this?

Hi,

I'm considering updating the rear wiper of my 4.4 sports E53. I find the rear wiper outdated although the car as a whole looks very up-to-date in my opinion- I love it +performance. In any case I like the looks of the E70 rear wiper and would love to have it on my E53. Would it fit on an E53? If not, any other alternatives to the rear wiper update? Anyone found current-looking SUV rear wiper that would fit an E53?

Thanks for any pointers,

Moses.

what year? I replaced the original arm on my 2001 X5 to the newer hook pattern. I don't know what the latest version supplied on the new ones looks like, or if is different from what I have now.

I'm not seeing the difference, other than my wiper rests on the exact opposite side.

Here's a better picture of the E70s rear wiper.

Thumbs up

Thank you TheKingSim0n, this is exactly what I was referring to- I just love that wiper! Would it fit on an E53 X5 2005? If it won't fit on an E53, at leat an upgrade to the wiry looking wiper that the E53 has.

Thumbs up

Thank you m5james. I have a 4.4 sports 2005. I have to admit its wiry wiper is quite out-of-date for the modern looks of this car. I find the E53 better looking than the E70 except for the wipers. I've taken care of the front. Any upgrade to the rear should suffice. What do you exacly have? Would you please post a close-up picture of your upgrade and details such as where purchased and installation?

Thanks!

Moses

The E70 wiper will not fit on a E53, if you look at the picture the wiper is on the right side with the pivot arm is curved in that direction. Where as the wiper assembly on an E53 is opposite of that.

Your best best bet is to get some a frameless wiper blade. Look at it this way the E70 rear wiper blade is plastic, where as the E53 is more solid and durable steel assembly.

That doesn't necessarily mean that it won't work, it'll just lose about 1" of sweep on the window. Personally, I still don't see the problem w/ the stock E53 wiper arm. Wiper blades can be changed for frameless version quite easily.

Here are the schematics for the E53. Agree with M5james I think the rear wiper looks great.
